The latest bulletin from research-based manufacturer and powder compaction specialists MEDELPHARM traces the detailed relationship between research data obtained from its STYL’One Evo compaction simulator and the results observed on production tablet presses.

The technical bulletin ‘Rotary Tablet Press Simulation: How close is the simulation compared to rotary tablet presses?’ observes the very close correlations between predicted behaviors from simulations on STYL’One Evo and the ‘real world’ results for different scenarios including:

• Release of API from a delayed release tab-in-tab modelled on a STYL’One Evo compared with the same formulation as produced on a Kilian industrial press.
• Drug delivery for a dual API formulation tri-layer tablet, showing almost identical dissolution for both active ingredients as produced on a Hata industrial press, compared with prediction from STYL’One Evo Compaction Simulator.
• Comparison of hardness for a single layer tablet, showing linear relationship between compression forces for two formulations modelled on STYL’One Evo and those required on Kilian KTP 420X press.
