Connecting Innovation and Education in Pharmaceutical Sciences

From April 22 to 24, 2025, Monash University Malaysia hosted a dynamic seminar that brought together pharmaceutical experts, researchers, and students for an in-depth exploration of advanced tablet formulation and production technologies. Organized by the School of Pharmacy, this event was part of the institution’s Pharmaceutical Technology Series and focused on integrating academic research with industrial best practices.

Across three days, attendees engaged in a mix of expert-led presentations, technical exchanges, and live demonstrations – gaining valuable insight into the evolving landscape of oral solid dosage form development.

Comprehensive Approach to Tablet Development

The seminar began with two days dedicated to theoretical insights, walking participants through the complete lifecycle of a tablet. Topics ranged from drug solubility and excipient compatibility to more complex themes such as the application of Quality by Design (QbD) principles, SUPAC compliance, and the integration of artificial intelligence in formulation workflows.

Discussions also covered granulation techniques, lubrication strategies, and the development of advanced dosage forms, including orally disintegrating tablets, multilayer tablets, and MUPS (multi-unit pellet systems).

These sessions laid a solid foundation for more advanced topics such as design space creation, risk-based process development, and the importance of optimizing manufacturing parameters for robust product performance.

Hands-On Training with the STYL’One Nano

On the third day, the focus shifted to practical application. Participants had the opportunity to interact directly with cutting-edge compaction technology during a hands-on demonstration using the STYL’One Nano R&D Compaction Simulator.

Presented by Lucile Kubiak, a scientific expert from MEDELPHARM’s Science Lab, this session highlighted how the STYL’One Nano enables precise simulation and analysis of tablet compaction processes on a laboratory scale.

Attendees explored how critical factors such as compression force, punch speed, and dwell time can be fine-tuned to study formulation behavior and ensure consistent tablet quality. The session also emphasized how this type of instrumented R&D equipment helps translate formulation theory into practical, real-world results.

Promoting Industry-Academic Collaboration
