MEDELPHARM hosting STYL’One webinar on external lubrication
Beynost, France: – Research-based manufacturer and tableting specialists MEDELPHARM is hosting a new webinar in its MySTYL’One Live sessions, this time examining the impact of external lubrication on tablet properties.
The MEDELPHARM webinar on External Lubrication: How to mitigate the impact of lubricants on your quality attributes, will be hosted online from 15:00hrs DST (UTC+1) on February 17. Registration is free (see Resources).
Optimizing scale up
The session will be presented by Cedrine de Backere from the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Technology at Ghent University, Belgium. Cedrine is a specialist drug development pharmacist who is currently working on a PhD research project on the optimization of tablet manufacturing, focusing on the correlation between small-scale and large-scale tablet manufacturing in order to facilitate scale-up and on external lubrication during tableting. Her research seeks to correlate observations in small-scale tablet manufacturing, using the MEDELPHARM STYL’One EVO compaction simulator, focusing on the impact of process settings on critical quality aspects of tableting.
Successful scale-up implemented on a tableting machine often requires specific attention to external lubrication systems in which lubricant is sprayed directly on the tooling of the tablet press by a pressurized nozzle to avoid reduction of tensile strength and increased disintegration and dissolution times in lubricant sensitive formulations.
Key external lubrication aspects
The webinar will explore key external lubrication aspects such as influence of process parameters on quality attributes, optimal strategies for implementing external lubrication at the development stage and alternative strategies for lubricant-sensitive formulations.
Cedrine de Backere will share observations and conclusions from her own research, such as:
- Evaluation of an external lubrication system on a STYL’One compaction simulator
- Influence of process parameters like spraying time and atomizing pressure on ejection forces, tensile strength and disintegration time
- Comparison of the results with internal lubrication
- A case study on determination of compaction properties
- A case study on assessment of lubricant sensitivity of filler and binders
The webinar is designed to meet the needs of a diverse R&D and engineering audience that includes formulation and galenic scientists, oral and solid dosage form specialists, scale-up and tech transfer engineers, technical support staff, pure researchers and regulators.
