MEDELPHARM Science Lab installs specialist GranuTools powder characterization instruments

Beynost, France: – MEDELPHARM’s addition of new specialist instruments at its Science Laboratory means the research-based manufacturer and tableting specialist can now perform sophisticated powder characterization studies even faster.

Installation of a new GranuHeap granular material heap analyzer and GranuPack high resolution tapped density analyzer will significantly speed the abilities of the MEDELPHARM Science Lab at Beynost, near Lyon, to predict and characterize the compressibility and flowability of powders in direct compression and tableting.

GranuHeap and GranuPack instruments

The GranuHeap™ granular material heap analyzer provides precise, automated and repeatable repose angle and cohesive index measurements to make more precise comparisons between the tableting suitability of different powders.

The GranuPack™ high resolution tapped density analyzer system provides faster and more accurate measurement of the bulk and tapped densities of powders, delivering more precise Hausner Ratio and Carr’s Index results as well as precise predictions of powder packing dynamics with full packing curve and characteristic tap number n1/2.

Powder characterization partnership

The installations are the first result of a new partnership between MEDELPHARM and the instruments’ Belgian-based manufacturer, powder flow characterization specialist GranuTools.

The partnership strengthens both companies’ capabilities, with MEDELPHARM benefiting from GranuTools’ cutting-edge technologies for powder flow characterization while GranuTools benefits from MEDELPHARM’s proven pharmaceutical expertise.

The collaboration will allow both companies to offer their customers cross-disciplinary studies on their powders from the MEDELPHARM Science Lab.
