MEDELPHARM Technical Bulletin: Effect of precompression on capping tendency
The latest bulletin from research-based manufacturer and powder compaction specialists MEDELPHARM highlights how the STYL’One Nano compaction simulator helps address tablet defects like capping during pharmaceutical development. Capping, caused by factors such as high compression speed or insufficient air escape, can be mitigated using precompression, which reduces stress on tablets during compression.
A study, performed by Sixtine Caquant, formulation scientist at MEDELPHARM Science Lab, demonstrated that precompression significantly lowered capping risk and ensured desired tablet hardness without altering the formulation. By simulating real-world rotary press conditions, the STYL’One Nano enables early detection and prevention of defects, optimizing formulations, reducing development costs, and ensuring smoother scale-up to production.
