L.B. Bohle QBCon® 1 for continuous granulation and drying of pharmaceutical solids
L.B. Bohle has recently become a leader in development of continuous wet granulation and drying systems for more efficient production of oral pharmaceutical solids with higher quality.
Its unique new QBCon® 1 compact footprint system meets the need for lab-scale R&D piloting of continuous granulation processes.
QbCon® 1 is the only system for research and development world-wide that meets the quality demands of pharmaceutical manufacture, combining a continuous granulation system with an integrated truly continuous dryer.
QBCon® 1 design
The QBCon® 1 design recognizes the need for short residence time of the granules in the dryer with a narrow residence time distribution as essential to be able to remove defective products in a targeted manner without having to discard a large portion of the batch.
Furthermore, narrow residence time distributions simplify the traceability of material in the continuous process, making it easier and less complex to trace finished tablets back to the basic products or to subsequently trace them from the basic products to the finished tablet.
The design also prioritizes high quality of end product by enabling even and reproducible drying of all granules – especially of different sizes – over the entire process duration.
The process chamber is kept small to minimize volume in the drying process. The design also ensures long service life of the exhaust air filters without having to interrupt the drying process or even replace components.
The small footprint and compact size make QbCon® 1 ideal for perfecting even the smallest pilot batches, with nominal throughputs of 0.5–2.5 kg per hour.
QBCon® 1 benefits
Specific user benefits of the continuous wet granulator and dryer include:
- Fully automatic cleaning of the filter during the drying process
- Gentle, uniform drying through gentle fluidization and transport
- Uniform conveying of the granules from charging to discharge
- Comfortable handling and easy cleaning
- Very short residence time of granules of different sizes
- Secured scale up for fast development of new products.
