L.B. Bohle hosts successful continuous manufacturing workshop in Brazil
Focus on continuous wet granulation and drying for R&D and small-scale production
Ennigerloh, Germany – L.B. Bohle has hosted a successful workshop for pharmaceutical professionals in Brazil, exploring how its twin-screw granulator and QbCon® system enable truly continuous wet granulation and drying for R&D and small-scale production.
The event focused on the operation and application potential of the QbCon® 1 continuous granulation and drying system. It featured in-depth technical presentations, hands-on demonstrations, and extensive knowledge exchange among participants.
Collaborative effort
To deliver the workshop, L.B. Bohle collaborated with partners Ashland and Maquidrex, alongside scientific contributions from Prof. Humberto G. Ferraz of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of São Paulo. The event provided a valuable platform for professionals to share insights and explore new approaches to the continuous production of solid oral dosage forms.
Participants from industry and academia gained detailed insights into twin-screw granulation and continuous drying based on patented QbCon® technology. Technical presentations, application examples, and case studies were complemented by live demonstrations showing how continuous processes can support efficient development and production of small batches of tablets and other oral solid dosage (OSD) forms.
These continuous manufacturing approaches offer significant advantages in terms of process efficiency, product quality, and enhanced process understanding – particularly in R&D and small-scale production environments.
Balancing theory and practice
The workshop successfully combined theoretical knowledge with practical application, highlighting the growing importance of continuous manufacturing in solid-dose pharmaceutical production.
In addition to core technical principles, the programme addressed scale-up considerations, specific applications, customer experiences, and selected case studies. This enabled participants to deepen their understanding of process interrelationships and apply key learnings to their own operations.
L.B. Bohle thanked all participants, speakers, and partners for contributing to the event’s success, noting that:
“The enthusiastic response and intensive technical discussions on site once again demonstrated the relevance of innovative granulation and drying technologies for the future of pharmaceutical production.”
