September 16th 2026

Büchenbeuren, Germany – Leading German TÜO technical inspection body, GZQ, has formally certified ME Logistic Services as a Specialist Waste Management company, meeting the demanding requirements of the EfbV standard for ethical and sustainable waste collection and recycling.

The certification means that ME Logistic Services will be able to play an increasingly important role in waste management that meets the ideals of the German krWG Circular Economy Act that will become increasingly important for life sciences companies in meeting their sustainability targets.

Supporting 3R ideals

Companies that are EfbV and krWG compliant will be able to support ‘3R’ (reduce, reuse, recycle) processes with specialized collection, transport, sorting and brokerage services that respect risk management, health and safety.

This is becoming an increasing challenge with respect to items powered by lithium batteries or that incorporate rare earth metals, for instance.

Detailed inspections

GZQ inspection and certification confirm that ME Logistics complies with the detailed EfbV requirements through regular inspections that possesses the specialist expertise required to verify compliance with the EfbV requirements.

Inspections cover every aspect of waste management, including:

  • Collection, transport, trading and brokering
  • Compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Licenses and authorizations,
  • Documentation and operational logs
  • Insurance cover
  • Health and safety at work
  • In-house fire safety and emergency management
  • Risk assessments and safety equipment
  • Qualifications and reliability of staff
  • Technical and personnel resources

Safety first

Following the EfbV inspections carried out in May 2026, including the assessment of site-specific requirements, ME Logistic Services is now EfbV certified through to the end of 2027.

In addition, ME Logistic Services has recently introduced quarterly Occupational Safety & Health (ASA) meetings involving representatives from the transport, warehouse and dispatch departments, as well as external consultants and inspectors. The meetings focus on operational safety, particularly in the areas of dangerous goods and waste disposal. Although not a requirement for the EfbV certification or inspection process, the appointed inspector noted implementation of the meetings as a positive additional measure.

About EfbV Certification

First published in 1996, Germany’s Entsorgungsfachbetriebeverordnung Ordinance on Specialized Waste Management Companies (EfbV) was introduced to address past failures to dispose of waste cleanly or safely, causing environmental damage. The Standard focuses on ensuring the transparency of waste disposal along with complete traceability through comprehensive documentation.

Following fundamental reforms EfbV entered into effect in amended form in June 2017. Required inspection now includes checks on company organization, equipment and activities as well as the competence of personnel. Recognition includes approval as a (primary) processing plant for electrical and electronic equipment in accordance with the ElektroG Act on the Sale, Return and Environmentally Sound Disposal of Electrical and Electronic Equipment.

Only companies certified according to the EfbV are allowed to advertise their services as a specialized waste management company and thereby show their customers that they fulfill the necessary requirements for the professional processing of waste.
