Bachem advances Sisslerfeld facility through strategic peptide collaboration
Bubendorf, Switzerland – Leading CDMO Bachem is advancing the next phase of its greenfield manufacturing project at Sisslerfeld in Eiken, Switzerland, through a strategic collaboration involving the supply of large volumes of peptides.
Bachem will invest more than CHF 500 million in the project, with commercial production at the new site expected to begin in 2030.
Long-term peptide supply agreement
The investment is supported by a strategic peptide supply agreement that includes prepayments and long-term commitments from Bachem’s collaboration partner. The identity of the partner and further details of the agreement have not been disclosed.
“Demand for peptides as active pharmaceutical ingredients remains high, and long-term supply agreements are essential to guarantee reliability for our customers and their patients while ensuring disciplined capacity expansion,” said Bachem CEO Dr. Anne-Kathrin Stoller.
“This agreement further strengthens Bachem’s planning security beyond 2030 and enables us to responsibly coordinate investments across our entire manufacturing network, including Sisslerfeld,” she continued.
Strengthening Bachem’s global network
Bachem’s existing manufacturing network includes Bubendorf and Vionnaz in Switzerland; Vista and Torrance in the US; and St. Helens in the UK. The planned Sisslerfeld facility will become an important addition to this global network when commercial production begins.
First announced in 2022, the Sisslerfeld development forms part of a company-wide program to expand production capacity across Bachem’s manufacturing network. The program includes facilities designed for the high-volume production of peptides and oligonucleotides, strengthening Bachem’s position as a leading global partner for TIDES.
The development also reinforces Bachem’s long-standing commitment to the Swiss life sciences sector, where the company began its journey more than 50 years ago.
