Bachem Webinar – Enabling Higher Process Efficiency Through API Concentration Strategies
Bubendorf, Switzerland: – An upcoming webinar from TIDES manufacturer Bachem will focus on how peptide and oligonucleotide concentration strategies can achieve higher process efficiency in production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
The free-to-register webinar Enabling Higher Process Efficiency Through API Concentration Strategies will be hosted on the Zoom platform on Wednesday, October 20, 2026, commencing at 17:00 CET (UT +2).
Quantity with quality
The webinar addresses the ongoing industry challenge of achieving sufficient peptide production to meet Increasing pharmaceutical needs and therapeutic applications, while maintaining rigorous drug substance quality and process robustness
To achieve this, it is vital to maximise the peptide and oligonucleotide API concentrations prior to isolation that has been found critical in improving manufacturing efficiency, maximizing asset utilization, and supporting higher production throughput.
Bachem experts will provide an overview of established membrane-based concentration technologies, including ultrafiltration/diafiltration (UF/DF), frequently referred to as tangential flow filtration (TFF), and nanofiltration (NF), along with practical use cases in multi-kilogram API manufacturing.
Addressing the challenges
The discussion will identify the key challenges involved in increasing TIDES productivity, such as:
- Concentration and isolation bottlenecks – Limiting throughput, asset utilization and manufacturing efficiency of peptide and oligonucleotide APIs.
- Technology selection and optimization – Selecting and optimizing the right concentration technology while maintaining product quality, process robustness and scalability.
- Inherent limitations of current membrane-based approaches, factors that influence performance, and considerations for successful process optimization.
Key benefits and takeaways
The one-hour webinar will provide insights into how the bottlenecks can be overcome, thanks to emerging solutions to overcoming concentration-related challenges in next-generation TIDES manufacturing processes.
It will discuss the most promising alternative technologies involved, including:
- Thin film evaporation (TFE) for more efficient separation of volatile components from heat-sensitive, viscous, and fouling chemical mixtures.
- Alternative approaches to existing concentration technologies such as UF/TFF, and NF that can increase throughput, reduce downstream bottlenecks and improve manufacturing efficiency.
The presenters will also give practical process guidance on selecting and optimizing concentration strategies for different molecule types and process requirements.
Presenters
The discussion will be led by two Bachem scientists with in-depth knowledge of oligonucleotide and peptide manufacturing.
- Moderator Dr Patrizia Marchetti is Senior Group Leader, Technical Operations and leads the MSAT process engineering group at Bachem Bubendorf. Her team focuses on the design and implementation of new processes and equipment for the manufacturing of API. Patrizia joined Bachem in 2017 as a technical Project Manager, leading CAPEX projects for the production department. Her previous experience includes developing nanofiltration-assisted processes for peptides and oligonucleotides.
- Technical insights will be provided by Ivan Zemskov, who holds a PhD in Peptide Chemistry from the University of Konstanz (Germany) and joined Bachem in 2017. As a group leader in R&D, he focuses on downstream process development and optimization for the manufacturing of peptide APIs.
