Bachem bringing multiple manufacturing insights to TIDES Europe in Amsterdam
Bubendorf, Switzerland – Bachem AG will again be a leading presence at the prestigious TIDES Europe 2026 conference in Amsterdam, as a prominent sponsor, exhibitor and scientific contributor.
Bachem is now a Platinum Sponsor of TIDES Europe as the industry’s leading peptide and oligonucleotide-focused scientific conference, and will also be an exhibitor at the event, from Booth 703 at Amsterdam’s RAI Center.
The Bachem stand will be staffed by a seven-strong team of experts, led by Bachem AG Director for Business Development, Dr. Riccardo Bernasconi.
Digital manufacturing
Day Two of the TIDES Europe event (November 4) will see Bachem make three contributions to the science and business program, sharing the latest insights and innovations in peptide and oligonucleotide development and manufacturing.
First, during the morning, Bachem Head of Digital Manufacturing & Data Analytics, Ralph Koitz, will deliver a Spotlight Presentation ‘Digital manufacturing in practice: Enabling efficient and compliant large-scale production’. exploring implementation of digital manufacturing capabilities and automation, including MES, electronic batch records, and integrated process data insights, to enable efficient and compliant large-scale production.
Dr. Kolz will share lessons learned in improving throughput, enhancing quality and reproducibility, and generating actionable process insights, as well as practical perspectives on digital manufacturing as a core capability of Bachem operations.
Advanced manufacturing
During the afternoon session on Oligonucleotide CMC, the presentation ‘Beyond Packed Beds: Advancing Scalable Oligonucleotide Manufacturing Through Stirred-Bed Technology’, from Bachem Director for Oligo R&D Dr. Marco Minuth will show how stirred bed technology (SBT) for solid phase oligonucleotide synthesis (SPOS) meets rising demand for more efficient and sustainable manufacturing at industrial scale. The technology is based on a novel reactor and mixing concept that eliminates the flow related inhomogeneities of conventional packed bed systems.
Continuous stirring ensures uniform reagent distribution, improved mass transfer, and robust performance across resin types and is fully compatible with state of the art downstream and hybrid manufacturing concepts, including enzymatic ligation and advanced purification strategies such as MCSGP. This seamless integration of chemical synthesis and enzymatic steps creates a powerful manufacturing platform that is highly efficient, scalable, and future proof for sustainable production of industrial oligonucleotide at metric ton scales.
Sustainable manufacturing
Finally, as part of the Peptide Discovery session, Bachem R&D Director Dr. Isabelle Wellhöfer will present ‘A mild and sustainable platform for disulfide bond formation in peptide manufacturing using dehydroascorbic acid’, highlighting a less hazardous alternative to existing oxidation methods in the manufacture of cysteine containing peptides.
The presentation will describe a new oxidation platform based on dehydroascorbic acid (DHA), the oxidized form of vitamin C, as a mild, selective, and sustainable reagent for disulfide bond formation. This method supports efficient oxidation under aqueous conditions and is compatible with both high concentration in solution processing and an integrated ion column implementation during preparative HPLC purification. The DHA based platform simplifies process design, improves operational safety and significantly reduces process mass intensity and solvent consumption. Together, these features support robust scale up and align peptide manufacturing with modern sustainability expectations.
