ZELLX® Glutathione fast multi-species assay kit
ZELLX® has developed a Glutathione Assay Kit that can simultaneously quantify levels of Glutathione (GSH), and Oxidized Glutathione (GSSG) in a variety of samples within 20 minutes.
The Glutathione Assay Kit is available in colorimetric and fluorometric versions and can quantify free GSH and oxidized GSSG from a wide range of sample types, including lysates, WB, RBCs, serum, plasma, urine and tissue.
The assay is species independent and is therefore of particular value in laboratory applications in Universities and research institutes.
Glutathione is a major non-protein thiol with a concentration of 0.5 – 10 mM in mammalian cells.
ZELLX® can also supply clinical quality L-Glutathione Reduced GSH (aka Gamma-L-Glutamyl-L-cysteinylglycine) in 25, 50, 100 and 250g quantities, and L-Glutathione Oxidized GSSG (Glutathiol, Oxiglutatione) in one gram, five gram, 10g and 25g quantities.
Research interest in GSH and GSSG has been increasing as they have been identified as intracellular reducing substances that protect cells against oxidative stress. Glutathione Peroxidase (GPx) catalyzes the reduction of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), using reduced GSH, and produces oxidized GSH dimer (GSSG).
GSH also plays a critical role in many other biological processes, such as protein and DNA synthesis, and amino acids transport as well as protection of cells against oxidation.
Once it was established that the potent NFkB inducer TPA increases intracellular GSSG levels and GSSG/GSH ratios, it has been proposed that GSSG might play an important role in the NFkB activating signal cascade.
