Webinar – Safeguarding peptides from nitrosamine contamination
Bubendorf, Switzerland – With concerns about the risks of nitrosamine drug substance related impurities (NDSRIs) increasing in the pharma and biotech industries, the latest online webinar from TIDES technology specialist Bachem will detail the extensive measures now in place to safeguarding peptide production processes against nitrosamine contaminations.
The webinar ‘How to assess and reduce Nitrosamine Contamination Risks in Peptide APIs’ will be hosted online via the Zoom platform on October 7, 2025. Commencing at 2000 EDT (UTC +2) and lasting approximately one hour. Registration for the event is free of charge and can be completed online (see Resources).
NDSRI risks
The discussion will emphasize the potential consequences of NDSRI contamination, which have recently included drug recalls, and regulatory agencies advising API manufacturers to implement risk assessment and mitigation strategies to ensure patient safety.
Since CDMOs often serve as a gatekeeper for potential nitrosamine contamination between starting materials and drug formulation, Bachem must aim not only to satisfy the strictest regulatory requirements but also ensure that customers and patients alike can trust the quality of its peptides.
The webinar will show how seriously Bachem takes those responsibilities and their practical implications for production and other processes.
Expert speakers
The session will be moderated by API’s Manager Kira Mounier, Masters graduate in pharmaceutical science from the University of Basel and former consultant for pharma and MedTech start-ups. Since 2021, she has been Bachem‘s Sales and Business Development Manager for generic peptides. Her current focus is on the sales of complex generic peptide drugs that need yet to be developed or optimized to be fit for market authorization upon patent expiry.
Featured speaker will be Dr. Laurin Melzig, Bachem’s Director of R&D. Graduating from Ludwig Maximilian University, in Munich, Laurin gained his PhD in organometallic chemistry in 2011. With PostDoc studies in medicinal chemistry at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, Genova, to 2014, when he joined Bachem. He has held his role as Director of R&D and Process Development since 2022.
