October 23rd 2025

Bubendorf, Switzerland: – The next online webinar from tides technology specialist Bachem will present a more efficient way to produce oligonucleotides at commercial scale.

The webinar, titled “Efficient Large-Scale siRNA Manufacturing: Enzymatic Ligation of Short RNA Fragments,” will be hosted online via the Zoom platform on November 5, 2025, commencing at 17:00 CET (UTC +1) and lasting approximately one hour. Registration is free of charge and can be completed online (see Resources).

Enzymatic ligation advantages

The webinar will show how enzymatic ligation of short oligonucleotide fragments offers a highly promising alternative to the current industry standard of linear synthesis of oligomer APIs, using continuous-flow solid-phase oligonucleotide synthesis (SPOS).

The discussion will explore the advantages of enzymatic ligation technology, such as higher yields, reduced purification burdens, and improved scalability, which may make it a more efficient method for large-scale production.

siRNA case study

The session, co-presented by experts from Bachem and RNA manufacturing specialist Codexis, will include a case study focusing on a therapeutically relevant siRNA sequence used to benchmark the different technologies applied in siRNA fragment manufacture.

It will also present a holistic view of the oligonucleotide manufacturing process, including control strategies for managing residual enzymes.

Expert speakers

The session will be moderated by Dr. Mathias Beysard, Business Development Manager for Oligonucleotides at Bachem. Dr. Beysard holds a Ph.D. in Natural Sciences from the University of Bern and has a strong background in molecular biology and commercial strategy. Prior to joining Bachem, he spent nearly a decade at Microsynth, serving as Sales Manager and later Head of Sales, where he played a pivotal role in expanding the company’s oligonucleotide business in diagnostics and research markets.

Bachem’s expert speaker Dr. Benjamin Breitenbach, Senior Group Leader in Oligo R&D, drives innovation in oligonucleotide development and production. He earned his Ph.D. in polymer-guided drug delivery from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in 2019 and joined Bachem in 2021, leading both production and R&D groups focused on advancing oligonucleotide manufacturing.

The invited speaker from Codexis is Dr. Mathew Miller, Director of Life Science & RNA Technologies. Since joining Codexis in 2009, Dr. Miller has led enzyme engineering projects involving T7 RNA polymerases for mRNA manufacturing, enzymatic oligo synthesis, and RNA ligation technologies. He now focuses on enzymatic routes for siRNA synthesis. Dr. Miller received his Ph.D. from the University of California, San Francisco.
