New factory boosts L.B. Bohle production of continuous manufacturing systems

Ennigerloh, Germany: – World-respected builder of advanced pharma machinery, L.B. Bohle, has brought its latest manufacturing facility online, focusing on systems for continuous production.

The new 2,000 m2 Plant 4, built in little more than one year, joins L.B. Bohle’s two existing production facilities at its base at Ennigerloh, in the Münsterland region of North Rhine-Westphalia.

In addition, L.B. Bohle will continue to operate its production plant for handling systems, blenders, mills and sieves in nearby Sassenberg.

    Focus on sustainability

The new plant, built on a 1.2 hectare site adjoining Plant 3, will exclusively focus on the production of continuous manufacturing machines and systems, such as the QbCon® series.

The new production complex will operate according to latest manufacturing standards, with emphasis also placed on sustainability and energy efficiency.

L.B. Bohle Managing Director Tim Remmert explains: “The production facility was built in accordance with Energy Efficiency 55. This means that the building requires only 55 percent as much energy as a comparable new building that achieves the maximum permissible value according to the German Energy Saving Ordinance (EnEV).”

This was partly achieved by installing a photovoltaic system on the roof that generates energy for the plant that can additionally feed surpluses into the grid. Further, environmental heating and hot water is supplied from state-of-the-art heat pump technology, and uses low-energy LED  lighting throughout. The staff and visitor car parks are also generously equipped with fast charging points for electric vehicles (EVs).

“Our entire production of machines at Plant 4 will be done with 100 percent green electricity. By the end of this year, this will also apply to all our other locations,” Remmert continued.

Major project for the start of production

The new plant came online late last month and was immediately busy in producing equipment for a ground-breaking new project to build a continuous production line to manufacture tablets by wet granulation.

The complete plant consists of a QbCon® 1 for continuous wet granulation and drying and a mixing and dosing unit, each completely enclosed by an isolator made by Franz Ziel GmbH, a screen of the BTS 100 series, the tablet press XL 100 WipCon® from KORSCH AG and Bohle’s own KOCO® 25 semi-continuous coater. The plant is fed by two Bohle HS 400 automated lifting columns.

“Investing in the new plant was exactly the right thing to do, because it has given us the capacity for further company growth. Implementing this major Continuous Manufacturing project in the new plant marks a special milestone for the entire company,” concluded Tim Remmert.
