MicroceLac® Plus for exceptional tabletability under DC
Pharmaceutical excipients specialist MEGGLE has introduced MicroceLac® Plus as a new product optimized for tablet manufacture by direct compression (DC) and continuous direct compression (CDC).
MicroceLac® Plus is the next level excipient for pharma manufacturers who want to be sure of superior performance when using DC and CDC, especially when working with difficult APIs, formulations with high API content, or when producing mini tablets (minitabs).
Co-processed lactose with MCC
MicroceLac® Plus is an innovative addition to MEGGLE’s co-processed excipients product line, combining 35 % alpha-lactose monohydrate and 65 % microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) to enhance tablet formulation.
This blend delivers a unique set of advantages. Most important is superior tabletability to that obtainable from standard DC excipients, with tablet hardness ‘greater than the sum of its parts’ in exceeding the properties of the individual components in the physical mixture, especially when using a disintegrant like Croscarmellose.
Designed for direct compression, MicroceLac® Plus is ideal for production of robust tablets with high mechanical strength and low friability, even with challenging APIs or high drug loads. A further advantage is very smooth core surface, for easy and economical coating.
Manufacturing benefits
MicroceLac® Plus eases both the formulation development and tablet pressing processes with further benefits that include:
- Good flowability in comparison with its corresponding physical blend
- A constant lactose to cellulose ratio that promotes simple and consistent dosing, even in continuous manufacturing
- Support for reduced tablet size: Ideal for manufacturing of easy-to-swallow, patient-friendly dosage forms
- An ideal combination of plastic and brittle deformation under compression greatly reducing tablet capping tendency.
In short, MicroceLac® Plus delivers outstanding tabletability that outperforms all standard DC excipients on the market, due to its exceptional compressibility and synergistic effects when applied to complex formulations.
