L.B. Bohle White Paper: Containment in Process Technology

The latest White Paper from leading pharmaceutical equipment manufacturer L.B. Bohle Maschinen und Verfahren GmbH (L.B. Bohle) explores the main challenges in achieving safe containment in pharma processes and their solutions.

The White Paper ‘Containment in Process Technology’ provides an overview of the factors that have made high containment as increasing crucial imperative for pharma manufacturers, particularly in tableting and oral solid dose (OSD) production. The White Paper presents two case study projects that demonstrate how L.B. Bohle both  ensures premium technology in standard machines and can also develop sophisticated individual solutions that ease high containment daily operations.

Special developments

The first project concerns the Containment version of the Bohle Film Coater BFC 100 that meets the highest isolation requirements with features that allow it to be operated in ‘closed driving mode.’ These features include automatic nozzle adjustment, infra-red product temperature measurement, container valve charging, special connections for charging and cleaning, provision of a sampling lance, and demountable nozzle holder.

The second project presented in the White Paper is the redesign of the BRC 100 Dry Granulator with its a state-of-the-art electro-mechanical drive that completely eliminates the need for hydraulics. This BRC 100 Containment version was also developed to individual customer specifications with a focus on compliance with OEB 5 containment level, convenient access, and easy product handling. These have necessitated numerous special features such as integrated isolator unit in the compacting unit, glovebox for removal of scabs, and added containment ports. The end result is a user-friendly and low-maintenance dry granulator with very short set-up times for fully contained operation without necessity clarification and implementation of interfaces between the system components.
