L.B. Bohle High Containment Solutions
L.B. Bohle process machinery is optimized for high containment of particles for maximum safety and operator protection. Its product portfolio from pilot-scale systems to large batch and continuous production systems have long incorporated a range of features that enable highly isolated and contained processing.
The impact of these design and engineering features on applications involving highly potent active pharmaceutical ingredients (HPAPIs) is illustrated in two examples from the L.B. Bohle product range: BFC Tablet Coaters and BRC Roller Compactors.
BFC Tablet Coater containment features
The Bohle BFC series of Tablet Coaters are available in high containment versions that incorporate several features that support operation in closed driving mode. These include:
- Automatic nozzle adjustment for spray stroke and angle.
- Feeding via a containment valve.
- Hose connection for cleaning the containment valve and the charging pipe (with option to do so during discharge where necessary).
- Airline connection for drying the containment valve and the charging pipe.
- Sampling lance.
- Side doors with inflatable seal.
- Removable nozzle holder for even easier wash in place (WIP) and Clean in Place (CIP).
Features such as these make the BFC Tablet Coaters easier to operate in HPAPI environments, aiding production efficiencies and lowering overall costs.
BRC Roller Compactor containment features
All BRC Roller Compactor machines are powered by a state-of-the-art electro-mechanical drive, eliminating the need for hydraulics, with their consequent contamination risks. In addition, the high containment versions of the BRC Roller Compactor range are equipped with the latest and fastest control suite, enabling fully automated operation with lower operator exposure. These machines are engineered to be highly user-friendly and low maintenance, with very short set-up times.
Their high containment features and benefits include:
- Fully equipped for high containment to meet the demanding Operator Exposure Band OEB Level 5.
- Integrated isolator unit in the compactor unit with corresponding vacuum monitoring.
- Glovebox with security prompt for the removal of scabs.
- Containment port for the collection of scab samples.
- Containment port underneath the sieve unit for the removal of granules.
- Convenient access, since the entire compactor forms a contained unit with no need for additional barrier protection.
- Residue-free removal of product by integrated WIP equipment, which is also integrated into the standard version.
The BRC 100 Roller Compactor and the BFC 100 Tablet Coater with their integrated isolator units and automated cleaning systems typify the systematic L.B. Bohle approach to high containment processing needs.
L.B. Bohle offers best-class containment solutions to ensure the highest safety standards for operators and the environment. Innovative containment and isolation technologies such as these enable more efficient and safer processing of highly potent compounds as demanded by advanced pharmaceutical applications to ensure optimal protection and product quality.
