Join Huxley Bertram at leading compaction simulation events

    February 14th 2025

Cambridge, UK: – The upcoming CSF Compaction Simulation Forum in San Francisco, California, and CMAC Open Days at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland, provide excellent opportunities to connect with Huxley Bertram as core members of an expert community of advanced compaction simulation specialists.

Both meetings provide hands-on opportunities and knowledge-sharing workshops that allow companies to benchmark their powder formulation methods and tabletting technologies.

    Shifting goal posts

They also provide valuable insights into state-of-the-art methodologies and technologies in the fast-evolving field of tabletting and compaction simulation.  In this arena, acceptable product quality is determined by context. Definitions of ‘high quality’ are changing all the time. What was good quality yesterday is not necessarily up to scratch today and probably will not be tomorrow.

The technology of powder compaction is evolving with new methods, materials, machinery and instrumentation. Keeping abreast of current best practices means keeping an eye on what is happening among the technology leaders and understanding how they do it.

In difficult areas such as compaction data, talking to the instrument makers is essential to understand the pitfalls and the successes. Very few formulators are using the most powerful tools to give process understanding, but those who do will set a new quality benchmark and reap the benefits of reduced waste and costs.

    Partnerships

As a world leader in compaction simulation, Huxley Bertram is a core member and sponsor of the Compaction Simulation Forum and also a close partner of the CMAC Centre for Continuous Manufacturing and Advanced Crystallization at University of Strathclyde.

CMAC’s Open Days are returning as a spring event, moving from its previous dates in November to be hosted over three days from March 18, 2025, at University of Strathclyde’s Technology & Innovation Center. These will provide some 300 delegates representing more than 65 organisations with opportunities to network with top academics, industry leaders, and fellow researchers, discover the latest advancements in CMAC’s major research programmes including the launch of MediForge, CMAC’s new research hub, engage in interactive sessions, lab tours, and share poster presentations on latest scientific insights, emerging industry challenges, and cutting-edge technologies.

The 2025 CSF, now inviting posters, will be a three-day event opening June 9 at the Genentech HQ in South San Francisco. This scientific conference provides a forum for discussing the latest aspects of simple and complex tablet research. Huxley Bertram representatives will be among the assembled formulation scientists, academics, pharmaceutical manufacturers and original equipment manufacturers to discuss subjects such as predicting tableting performance, using theoretical and empirical methods, compaction simulation testing options and HB advanced contract development services that are provided in collaboration with CMAC. These include material characterization studies, material-sparing replication of dry granulation processes, and improvements of clinical and commercial die compaction processes.

    About CSF 2025

The Compaction Simulation Forum (CSF) is an annual knowledge sharing event dedicated to bringing together leading players in tableting and powder formulation, including practitioners, researchers, formulators, and vendors, reflecting the rise of high-speed hydraulic simulators and mechanical replicators in the pharmaceutical Industry and academia.

Since the event was founded in 2012 with an initial meeting in Cambridge, Massachusetts, there have been twelve CSF meetings, alternating between Europe and the USA, with the most recent meeting held in Dublin, Ireland in 2024.

The 14th CSF will again be a three-day meeting, opening June 9, 2025, at the Genentech headquarters in South San Francisco, CA. It attracts delegates representing academic and research institutions, pharma companies and equipment suppliers. The forum will feature numerous expert presentations, posters, and round-table discussions. There will also be a co-located vendor exhibition zone.

The event is organized by the Compaction Simulation Group under the Presidency of Dr. Kevin J. Bittorf with further information at: https://europe.compactionsimulation.com
