    April 3rd 2025

Cambridge, UK: – Huxley Bertram was a prominent presence at the CMAC Open Days hosted by University of Strathclyde’s Centre for Continuous Manufacturing and Advanced Crystallization during March 2025.

As a leading member of the international powder compaction simulation community, Huxley Bertram has been closely associated with CMAC for 5 years as part of the Strathclyde University Technology & Innovation campus. HB is a Tier 2 partner of the Centre, which uses the Huxley Bertram HB50 simulator in its research programs.

    Cutting-edge technologies

The CMAC Open Days provide an annual forum for networking and knowledge sharing via interactive sessions, lab tours, and shared poster presentations on the latest scientific insights, emerging industry challenges, and cutting-edge technologies.

For 2025, CMAC’s Open Days returned as a three-day event from March 18 at Strathclyde’s Technology & Innovation Center, moving from their previous date in November. This year’s Open Days were attended by some 300 delegates, including academic and industry researchers. Presentations of the latest CMAC work included the launch of the new MediForge research hub developing a pharma Industry 5.0 manufacturing paradigm for sustainable and human-centric medicines manufacture.

    Sharing expertise

Huxley Bertram senior engineers Ralph Lucas and Martin Bennett manned an exhibition table, where displays and materials included detailed information on the HB100 and other Tablet Compaction Simulators.

They were able to share insights on the latest developments in Tableting and Powder Compaction Simulation. They were also able to provide direct advice to visitors looking for bespoke automation solutions to meet specialized manufacturing needs.

    Powerful tools

Guided lab tours allowed delegates to inspect the Huxley Bertram HB50 installation at CMAC. Later, Martin Bennett commented: “As ever, we were delighted to be a part of CMAC Open Days as a brilliant platform for raising awareness around latest methodologies and technologies in the field of tableting and compaction simulation.”

“Compaction studies and formulation development are technically challenging fields, where it is vital to talk to the instrument makers to gain deeper understanding of the pitfalls and solutions. It is perhaps surprising that relatively few formulators are using the most powerful tools to give them real process understanding, but those who do can set a new quality benchmark and reap the benefits of reduced waste and costs,” Martin Bennet added.

    About Huxley Bertram

Huxley Bertram Engineering Ltd. (HB) produces its range of high-performance powder compaction machines and tablet press simulators from its design and production facility situated in the hi-tech hub of Cambridgeshire in the UK.

HB Powder Compacting Machines and Equipment are ideally suited to the development of new powder formulations, with leading-edge technology and precision engineering that allow HB presses to simulate high speed production processes whilst recording accurate process data to optimize production quality and efficiency.
