How Brevetti Angela is revolutionizing aseptic BFS packaging – and changing industry standards

NextGen Closed Parison

For 2026, Brevetti Angela will address the conference about its re-imagining of the closed parison aspect of Blow Fill Seal machines that is a key factor in their aseptic filling capabilities. The presentation ‘Next Generation Closed Parison Technology’ from Brevetti Angela Technical Sales Manager Massimo Consolaro will show how the closed parison concept associated to the classic rotative systems is today reinvented and dramatically simplified on SYFPAC® DUO platforms.

Before SYFPAC® DUO, the closed parison was mainly found on large high-speed rotary Blow Fill Seal platforms that included several rotating moulds, which allowed for large production but were difficult to adapt to different formats and required long changeover times.

SYFPAC® DUO reinvented the closed parison concept by using only two moulds on a continuous alternate movement, yet keeping the aseptic conditions granted by the closed parison which is never exposed to the external environment. The new design provides an unprecedented flexibility in a BFS platform from several points of view: moulds are extremely easy and quick to be replaced, so that it only takes a few minutes for a format change; different polymers can be used on the same moulds with no mechanical change, but only a recipe setting on the HMI; and the possibility of adding inserts in the closed parison, which opens the way to production of prefilled syringes and special medical devices at the highest speed and with maximum aseptic safety.

Re-inventing Rotary Blow Fill Seal 

SYFPAC® DUO radically simplifies the rotative Blow Fill Seal concept by alternating the opening and closing of two molds on the parison. This allows for the high outputs and full containment of rotary mechanisms combined with the flexibility and adaptability of previous SYFPAC® Blow Fill Seal machines, all on a compact footprint with modular scalability. The SYFPAC® DUO advanced operating system also introduces continuous particle monitoring into the closed parison, a crucial innovation that was not available on standard rotative machines but that was made possible by the special AsepticBox. Now that viable and total particles can be for the first time measured inside a closed parison system, the requirements of EU GMP Annex 1 are not only completely met but actually exceeded.

The SYFPAC® DUO has redefined what is understood by ‘closed parison’ to such an extent that the BFS IOA is now updating its Points to Consider guidance document accordingly.

The Pharmaceutical Blow-Fill-Seal International Operators Association (BFS IOA) is an international industry association for pharmaceutical and associated companies with direct or indirect involvement with Blow-Fill-Seal (BFS) manufacturing.
