HOF Sonderanlagenbau to host webinar on sustainable freeze-drying

Lohra, Germany: Innovative force in high-quality tailored lyophilization solutions, HOF Sonderanlagenbau, will host an online webinar on the role of advanced refrigeration technologies in making lyophilization a greener and more sustainable process.

The webinar ‘Sustainable Refrigeration Technologies for Freeze-Drying Processes’ will focus on solutions for new manufactured equipment and retrofitting of existing machines with sustainable and future-proof technologies. It will be hosted on the Arena International Events platform on Wednesday October 30, 2024, commencing at 1500 GMT (1000 hrs. EST).

New regulations and technologies 

The session will first review regulatory requirements for refrigeration technologies, such as the new F-Gases and PFAS Regulations and their implications for freeze-drying and freeze-thaw systems. The latest update of the F-Gases regulations in March 2024 will significantly restrict use of conventional refrigeration gases for new installations

It will then provide an overview on sustainable refrigeration technologies such as Liquid Nitrogen (LN2), Natural Refrigerants (CAR6), and use of air as a refrigerant, exemplified by HOF’s CryoBlizzard systems.

New install and retrofit

Presenter Fabian Plaum, of HOF Sales Management for Freeze-Drying and Freeze-Thaw applications, will then examine options for fitting these greener refrigeration technologies onto new installations as well as possibilities for retrofitting them to legacy installations.

Following the webinar, the audience will be provided with a more detailed technical paper on alternative solutions for future production process that can be considered either for new manufactured equipment or for retrofit possibilities in existing production lines.

Fabian Plaum has been with HOF Sonderanlagenbau since 2014 and is now a qualified Master of Engineering. In his role at Sales Management, he is responsible for the customer care and the creation of customized concepts for the integration of Freeze-Thaw equipment and Freeze-Dryers into aseptic fill and finish lines.
