Gerteis roller compaction stars heading for P-MEC India
Press Release | Gerteis Maschinen + Processengineering AG
NOVEMBER 19, 2014
Jona, Switzerland: – Gerteis, the world-renowned specialist in roller compactors and dry granulation, continues its strategy of establishing its presence in developing markets by exhibiting at India’s leading pharma industry event in Mumbai next month.
Gerteis will be a prominent presence at the three day Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Equipment conference (P-MEC), co-located alongside the huge CPhI trade show in Mumbai in early December.
This will be Gerteis’ fourth appearance at the P-MEC India show, with the Swiss-based company once again looking to extend its network of contacts and partners in the rapidly expanding South Asian manufacturing sector.
Mini-Pactor® and Polygran® debuts
The Gerteis stand at Booth J2 in Hall 5 at the Bombay Convention and Exhibition Center will be showing the company’s versatile R&D, pilot scale and full production models. These will include live demonstrations of the R&D and small-scale production oriented Mini-Pactor®, highlighting its powder transfer capabilities when teamed with valves sourced from Charge Point in the UK.
This will be another appearance in India for this high containment roller compactor designed for R&D applications and stringent GMP requirements, with outputs ranging from 10grams up to 100kg/hr continuous production while maintaining occupational exposure limit (OEL) levels as low as 0.1µg/m³ as an additional feature.
Linear scale up
The Gerteis team will also be giving an Indian debut to its larger pilot to full-scale production Polygran® roller compactor, highlighting the ingenious through-the-wall design that keeps production and maintenance areas separate for clean room applications and limited production spaces. Like all Gerteis systems, the Polygran® supports a wide range of applications and easy linear up-scaling, with throughputs ranging from 500g pilot quantities through to 300 kg per hour.
Gerteis Vice-President for Sales & Technology, Hartmut vom Bey, and the company’s President, Paul Gerteis, will lead the event team.
“P-MEC India is becoming an increasingly important event for us, as we build out business in South Asia,” said Mr. Vom Bey.
High compliance, low cost
“We thought long and hard about which machines to bring to Mumbai and decided that Mini-Pactor® and Polygran® would be particularly interesting for many of the laboratories, midrange companies and contract manufacturers that have entered the pharma industry over the past few years,” he explained.
“Both these roller compactors have already proved their high suitability to start-up enterprises, supporting QbD and GMP compliance with innovative technologies that assist in linear scale-up from R&D to medium scale production, extending dry compaction techniques to new fast development industries,” he added.
“On our stand, we will be able to show how our new technology can cut total cost per tablet; reducing production times by up to 60 per cent and energy inputs to a tenth of those required by previous granulation technologies. We will also be able to demonstrate how ingenious compact design reduces floor footprint to a quarter of other machines of comparable output and are also less labor-intensive, releasing further savings,” said Mr. vom Bey.
Gerteis Maschinen + Process engineering AG are a Swiss-based company that has rapidly established itself as a world leader in the field of premium roller compactors. The company’s products and services cover all aspects of dry granulation processes, with unparalleled experience in this field built up since the company was founded in 1986.
Gerteis manufactures a wide range of high quality roller compactors that are versatile enough to process a vast range of powders, even notoriously problematic ones at both laboratory and production scales. The company’s patented technologies are widely used by the pharmaceutical, chemical and food industries.
Rapidly increasing demand recently forced the company to move from its original site in Jona on the shores of Lake Zurich to larger and purpose designed premises nearby, in a move completed at the end of 2013.
As well as manufacturing machinery, Gerteis offers complete solution packages that help customers increase productivity including support on identifying ideal formulations and in-house training courses on dry granulation processing. Gerteis constantly seeks to expand its knowledge on dry granulation, participating in numerous research collaborations with German universities.
About P-MEC India 2014
The annual combined CPhI and associated trade expositions together form the largest pharmaceutical industry event in South Asia, attracting close to 30,000 visitors and more than 900 from some 95 countries. The three-day expo opens on December 2 and closes on December 4.
CPhI is co-located with the P-MEC machinery and equipment, ISCE outsourcing and BioPh biopharma technology shows that will occupy all four main halls of the Bombay Convention and Exhibition Center (BEC) in Mumbai.
Organised by UBM Live, the combined CPhI/P-MEC show was first staged in India in 2008 and is now in its sixth year. The event provides a platform for visitors and exhibitors to identify latest scientific and technological trends, network with partners, source ingredients and services at competitive prices, along with major suppliers of pharmaceutical ingredients, outsourcing, equipment and bio-solutions.
Apart from the Chi India Conference, various technical seminars provide access to latest thinking on industry trends.
