Gasporox launches Laboratory Services for in-house headspace testing
Lund, Sweden: – Non-destructive testing technology specialist Gasporox AB has introduced a range of in-house laboratory services for non-destructive headspace testing, enhancing support for quality control and method development across pharma and other industries.
These services provide the reliable data and insights required for product development and packaging quality assurance while saving clients any need to invest in their own laboratory capabilities.
Suite of services
Initial offerings in the new Gasporox Laboratory Services range include studies for product compatibility evaluation, non-destructive batch verification of gas composition and pressure, stability over time to determine shelf life and packaging integrity, and multi-parameter studies that can analyse multiple headspace parameters simultaneously.
The five laboratory services offered at launch are each detailed on the Gasporox website (see Resources). They are:
- Alpha studies: A rapid lab-based feasibility service to evaluate whether product and packaging are compatible with Gasporox headspace analysis and CCIT technology. It provides early, non-destructive insight for product development, validation, and innovation, with either in-depth product evaluation or exploratory technology development depending on compatibility.
- Batch Check: Non-destructive batch-level verification of headspace gas composition and package pressure, enabling quality assurance and batch release decisions without investing in in-house equipment. Using laser-based measurements, Gasporox analyses full batches or representative samples at a defined time point, delivering clear, traceable results while keeping all tested containers intact and saleable.
- Multi-parameter studies: Simultaneous non-destructive laboratory investigations of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and internal package pressure measurements to provide a holistic understanding of product and packaging behaviour. By evaluating multiple headspace parameters in parallel over defined conditions or time points, the service supports development, optimization, and root cause analysis where interactions between gas composition and pressure are critical.
- Stability studies: Non-destructive, long term laboratory investigations that monitor headspace gas composition and package pressure in sealed products over defined storage periods. By generating trend-based data from repeated measurements on the same containers, the stability service can determine shelf life, optimize packaging selection, and verify long-term product and packaging performance.
- Customer Defined Studies: Fully bespoke, non-destructive laboratory investigations for applications that do not fit standard testing services. Each study is individually developed in collaboration with Gasporox to deliver targeted headspace gas and pressure data that directly support specific development, investigation, or decision-making needs.
First steps
Each project starts with a technical discussion to understand client requirements, constraints, and application context. Based on these initial findings, Gasporox experts can then define the appropriate study design and testing approach using their unique tuneable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) technology and precision instruments.
Gasporox is planning to expand its laboratory services offers further in future, with other studies to join those detailed above.
About Gasporox
Gasporox, based in Lund in southern Sweden, develops and manufactures laser-based sensors for integration into in-line inspection and production lines for Headspace Analysis and Leak Detection. Gasporox sensors are also available in various instruments ideal for quality control and at-line inspection of packaging and support many different package formats as highly effective tools for more efficient sample testing and greener production.
The VialArch™ is a unique laser-based solution for vials to be installed on the production line for 100% quality inspection for residual oxygen and container closure integrity testing. The laser beam is passing the headspace of the moving vials to perform laser-based headspace analysis (HSA), non-destructive and with precise measurements of the residual oxygen in the headspace.
The GPX1500 Film Pharma is a compact and easy to use instrument to measure accurate the headspace of pharmaceutical bags and pouches. It’s designed to operate parameter free to have a reliable and accurate use in the pharmaceutical production and lab. The GPX1500 Vial is the Film Pharma’s sibling for rigid containers, like vials and ampoules.
The available Headspace Analysis sensors work with many types of containers like vials, ampoules, bottles, bags and trays and are available for measuring O2, CO2, H2O, or the pressure inside the inspected container and are suitable for Leak Detection on packages like trays, bags. These sensors can be integrated into production machines or form the basis for stand-alone instruments.
Gasporox technology has been proven for performance and robustness over more than a decade in the pharmaceutical industry in the testing of parenteral drugs. It is integrated and used in machines, systems and instruments for total lab and production testing of vials and ampoules in many parenteral packaging lines.
Gasporox testing technologies are non-destructive and deterministic and recommended by <USP1207>.
