Gasporox introduces new GPX1500 Film Pharma tester as new approach to headspace gas testing
Lund, Sweden: – Non-destructive testing technology specialist Gasporox AB has introduced the GPX1500 Film Pharma instrument as a unique and innovative solution for non-destructive headspace gas testing of IV bags and pharmaceutical pouches.
Gasporox previewed the new GPX1500 Film Pharma at late April’s Parenteral Drug Association (PDA) Parenteral Packaging Conference online event, where it attracted significant interest.
Ground-breaking technologies
The new instrument, the latest addition to the Gasporox GPX1500 Series of non-destructive product testing instruments, is based on the company’s unique mastery of Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (TDLAS). It uses light to detect the gas inside the package with a receiver that immediately presents the measurement on the instruments screen.
The technology was originally developed by research scientists at nearby Lund University and perfected by Gasporox’s own senior R&D team for quality control in HSA applications and for leak detection of gases such as oxygen, carbon dioxide and water vapor in packaging for the pharmaceutical, food and beverage industries.
At-line and laboratory quality control
The GPX1500 Film Pharma is very compact and easy to use. It is designed to operate parameter-free allowing a reliable quality control both at-line or in a laboratory. With a testing time below 10 seconds, it allows efficient testing of bags and pouches with high sampling frequency.
The measurement of oxygen headspace can be performed on primary or secondary bag without the loss of the bag or its precious contents. These non-destructive measurement abilities also enable reductions in production costs.
Proved over a decade
Gasporox Senior Sales Manager & Application Specialist Roland Koch commented: “We are proud to launch this innovative product stemmed from our extensive experience in laser absorption spectroscopy.”
“Our Gasporox technology has already been used very successfully over 10 years for the testing of parenteral drugs and our products are now integrated and used in machines, systems and instruments to do 100% and lab testing of vials and ampoules in many packaging lines and labs worldwide,” Mr. Koch added.
About Gasporox
Gasporox, based in Lund in southern Sweden, develops and manufactures laser-based sensors for integration into in-line inspection and production lines for Headspace Analysis and Leak Detection. Gasporox sensors are also available in various instruments ideal for quality control and at-line inspection of packaging and support many different package formats as highly effective tools for more efficient sample testing and greener production.
The GasSpect for Headspace Analysis sensors work with transparent and non-transparent packages like trays, bags, bottles, containers and can measure O2, CO2, H2O, CO2, pressure, residual oxygen and more. The LeakSpect for Leak Detection sensor series work with transparent and non-transparent packages like trays, bags, bottles and containers of many types of material and can detect leaks of O2 and CO2. These sensor series are to be integrated into production machines.
Gasporox technology has been proven for performance and robustness over more than a decade in the pharmaceutical industry in the testing of parenteral drugs. It is integrated and used in machines, systems and instruments for total lab and production testing of vials and ampoules in many parenteral packaging lines.
Gasporox testing technologies are non-destructive, deterministic and <USP1207> and ASTM recognized.
