Gasporox GPX1500 Vial Instrument for advanced headspace pharma vial testing
Non-destructive testing technology specialist Gasporox AB (publ) offers the GPX1500 Vial Instrument as a new approach to headspace oxygen gas inspection in pharmaceutical injectable drug and vaccine vials.
The instrument is part of the Gasporox GPX1500 Series of non-destructive quality inspection instruments based on the company’s mastery of Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (TDLAS) technology, enables fast, accurate, non-intrusive and non-destructive testing of vials.
Gasporox GPX1500 Vial advantages
The GPX1500 Vial is a very compact and easy to use instrument that delivers very accurate measurement of oxygen concentrations in the headspace of pharmaceutical containers. It is designed to operate parameter free for reliable and accurate use in pharmaceutical production and laboratories.
The system offers non-destructive at-line, storage or laboratory quality testing and leak detection with quick, accurate and easy testing of pharmaceutical vials. The TDLAS technology supports oxygen degradation investigations as well as stability trends and end of shelf-lives studies.
Results are presented immediately on the touch screen. The non-destructive measurement lets you return the samples to the production line with no waste.
The instrument is designed to test a range of amber and clear glass vial formats ranging from 2R to 100R. A key advantage is that changeover to a different container format does not require the operator to change any settings.
TDLAS was originally developed by research scientists at Sweden’s world-renowned Lund University and perfected by Gasporox’s own senior R&D team for quality control in HSA applications and for leak detection of gases such as oxygen, carbon dioxide and water vapor in packaging for the pharmaceutical, food and beverage industries.
TDLAS is based on the principle that every gas molecule absorbs light at certain wavelengths and that tuning the laser across different gas absorption lines will produce changes in light intensity from which gas concentrations can be calculated. This provides an innovative 21st century alternative to destructive testing methods which lead to product loss and high production costs.
The GPX1500 Vial Instrument design is also based on Gasporox’s 25 years of experience in the development and refinement of industrial laser gas sensors.
Gasporox technologies based on optical spectroscopy have been proven over more than a decade in the successful testing of parenteral drugs. Robust Gasporox sensors can be integrated into machines, systems and instruments for 100% testing of vials and ampoules in production and packaging lines, as well as laboratories. Gasporox technologies is applied to Container Closure Integrity Testing (CCIT), leak testing, Modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) and residual oxygen inspection. They also have potential for advanced testing and measurement in other fields such as porosity of pharmaceutical substrates.
