Lindau, Germany: – Laboratory engineering specialist DORNIER–LTF will use the huge analytica 2014 trade fair in Munich to unveil the latest version of its innovative PIRO® personal pipetting robot.

The new generation PIRO® features new functions such as optimized sequences for enhanced results, ‘intelligent pipetting’ from database and ‘through matrix import’.

“With these new features, PIRO now makes leading edge automation truly affordable for all molecular biology laboratories,” said Dr. Rudolf Walser, DORNIER-LTF Director of Applications and Sales.

“PIRO attracted huge interest when we showed it at the previous analytica event in 2012,” Dr. Walser recalls.

“Since then there’s been rising industry awareness that we have succeeded in bringing really versatile and time-saving instrumentation to the laboratory automation market,” he said.

“This time around, we plan to demonstrate that we have advanced our technical know-how and can really justify strengthened confidence in our technology,” said Dr. Walser.

Compact but versatile

The revolutionary bench top PIRO® robotic pipetting system has been designed for the needs of qPCR laboratories allowing versatility, precision, reproducibility, and safety combined with highly intuitive software for easy setup of reactions. The system can be used for many liquid handling needs from simple liquid transfers to highly complex applications. Although PIRO® has a small footprint, it still offers high density, allowing 16 positions to be used. The robot also offers flexible plate handling, liquid level sensing, multi-dispensing functions, normalization and serial dilutions and can handle 384–well plate setup without running out of tips.

Drag and drop programming for qPCR setup makes the PIRO robot very easy to program. Set up takes no more than five steps and delivers results in minutes.

The system can be seen in action at the DORNIER-LTF display at Stand 520 in Hall B2 at the Munich Trade Fair Centre.

About analytica 2014

The analytica 2014 event, held from April 1 to April 4, formally known as the 24th International Trade Fair for Laboratory Technology, Analysis, Biotechnology and analytica, is organized by Messe München International (MMI).

The event has been held at the Munich Trade Fair Centre every second year since 1968. The 2012 analytica event attracted almost 37,500 visitors from some 110 countries.

The three main elements of the event are:

Exhibition representing more than 1,000 exhibitors from 37 countries. Main exhibition sectors are analysis and quality control, biotechnology/life sciences/diagnostics and laboratory technologies.

Scientific conference hosted by Forum Analytik, representing scientific associations such as the German Chemical Society (GDCh), the Association for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (GBM) and the German Association for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (DGKL).

Supporting program that includes the analytica Forum, Finance Day, Job Day, analytica Research Award and training events.

The event is part of an international network of trade fairs that has three spin-off events in Asia: analytica China in Shanghai, analytica Anacon India in Mumbai and analytica Vietnam, in Ho Chi Minh City.
