Discover Gerteis Roller Compactor Systems on show at interpack 2014

    news-releasesGerteis Maschinen + Processengineering AG
    April 17th 2014

Jona, Switzerland: – Gerteis, the world-renowned specialist in roller compactors and dry granulation, will exhibit two Pactor® machines and one machine of the Polygran® ranges at the leading trade fair for processes and packaging, interpack 2014. The event is held in Düsseldorf / Germany in May where Gerteis will launch two new innovations during the show.

The Gerteis roller compactors have attracted world-wide attention for their ideal suitability to start-up QbD programs, with innovative technologies that assist in linear scale up from R&D to High volume production, with outputs ranging from 10-gram trials up to 400 kilograms per hour. The machines have also introduced a patented gentle roller compaction method with interchangeable surfaces that creates consistently uniform granule properties while avoiding waste and minimizing temperature variations, extending dry compaction to new industries.

    Machines on show:

    • MINI-PACTOR®: A high containment roller compactor designed for R&D applications and the most stringent GMP requirements, utilizing a unique (patented) feed and force control system, for controlling the compaction of products, large diameter rolls to maximize dwell time in the nip area and a superior punch & die designed compaction roll system. The Mini Pactor® line is capable of producing from 10 grams of product up to 100kg/hr continuous production. The machine will be equipped with an integrated rigged isolator to maintain OEL levels as low as 0.1µg/m3.
    • MACRO-PACTOR®: A larger high containment roller compactor that also uses the patented feed and force control system, large diameter rolls and punch & die designed roll system. It is capable of producing from 100 grams of product up to a production requirements of 400kg/hr continuous production, again while maintaining OEL down to 3µg/m3 as standard. The Macro-Pactor can be upgraded to meet OEL levels as low as 0.1µg/m3 as well.
    • Polygran®: The Polygran® compactor can produce up to 300kg/hr by using similar control systems as the larger Pactor® Series and also uses the different roll surfaces and easily interchangeable screens for maximized output efficiency. The machine will come with a brand new state-of-the-art control system.

Attendees are invited to visit the Gerteis stand in Hall 16 Booth E04 where they can observe the MACRO-PACTOR® in action, running dry powder processing demonstrations throughout the seven-day event.

“This will be the second time that Gerteis will be exhibiting at interpack and we are very much looking forward to meeting project engineers, production people and scientists with new projects in development with whom we can exchange insights and provide new solutions to dry granulation processing challenges, ” said Hartmut vom Bey, Gerteis Vice-President in charge of Sales & Technology.

“We are confident that when visitors have the opportunity to view these machines in action and see the high-tech designs that have been used they will realize that Gerteis are the best partners in roller compaction and dry granulation, not just for our engineering but also for the pharmaceutical, food and chemical formulation and dry granulation processing expertise we can share,” he added.

    About Gerteis

Gerteis Maschinen + Processengineering AG is a Swiss-based company that has rapidly established itself as a world leader in the field of premium roller compactors. The company’s products and services cover all aspects of dry granulation processes, with unparalleled experience in this field built up since the company was founded in 1986.

Gerteis manufactures a wide range of high quality roller compactors that are versatile enough to process a vast range of powders, even notoriously problematic ones at both laboratory and production scales. The company’s patented technologies are widely used by the pharmaceutical, chemical and food industries.

Rapidly increasing demand recently forced the company to move from its original site in Jona on the shores of Lake Zurich to larger and purpose designed premises nearby, in a move completed at the end of 2013.

As well as manufacturing machinery, Gerteis offers complete solution packages that help customers increase productivity including support on identifying ideal formulations and in-house training courses on dry granulation processing. Gerteis constantly seeks to expand its knowledge on dry granulation, participating in numerous research collaborations with German universities.

    About interpack 2014

The interpack Trade Fair, held every three years in Düsseldorf, Germany, is one of the world’s leading events for the packaging industry and related process technologies. This year’s event will take place on May 8-14.

Organizer Messe Düsseldorf say interpack 2014 is already sold out, with all available spaces in the 19 halls at the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre fully booked. This repeats the success of the previous interpack fair in 2011, which attracted 2,703 exhibitors from 60 countries and more than 165,000 visitors representing pharmaceutical, cosmetics and other industries ranging from food and beverages to industrial goods and related services.

For 2014, interpack will feature an extensive supporting programme with a new Components event, a Metal Packaging Plaza and the world Save Food Congress, organized in co-operation with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization to highlight issues global food loss and food waste.

Overall, about 1,100 of the roughly 2,700 exhibitors have expressed their intention to show solutions for the pharmaceuticals industry.
