Preserving the integrity and quality of dry powdered and granulated products is an increasing concern for the pharma and specialty chemicals industry. Bulk packaging plays an important role in avoiding caking, ensuring stability and preventing contamination between production and the final application.

Safe powder handling

Dry powdered products require effective dust containment during off-loading and packing to protect product and operators. The industry offers ample primary and secondary dust containment solutions to improve security levels during powder handling. Sealing heads and dust flow booths protect operating staff during the powder handling process and reduce product loss to a minimum. But this is by no means the end of the story.

After packing, powders need protection from the environment, guaranteeing their physical properties and chemical stability and maintaining product integrity during storage and shipping. Proper packaging is of utmost importance.

Protecting powders from moisture ingress

Although the primary packaging is considered most important because it is in direct contact with the powder, secondary packing can also contribute real added value in offering barriers to moisture contamination or UV light transmission as well as providing shock resistance and impact protection to safeguard fragile particulates or granulated materials.

CurTec supplies a range of high performance plastic drums and containers for both primary and secondary packaging. These all provide highly effective barrier seals against moisture transmission. All CurTec packs have screw lids with integrated gaskets that prevent moisture or water vapor from entering through the closure, causing powders to cake and harden.

Robust and secure drums

CurTec drums offer powders excellent protection against outside impact. For example, they can resist contact with the tines of a forklift truck that can easily damage cardboard or fiber, especially when softened by water or dent a metal drum or pail resulting in product loss. Plastic drums cannot be weakened by water or moisture vapor and keep their mechanical strength.

Plastic drums are also easier and more space efficient in stacking because the shape of the base is adapted to the recess in lid. This perfect fit is indispensable for proper packaging and securing on a pallet.

All CurTec bulk containers bear UN marking that confirms they are constantly tested for mechanical strength with drop and stacking tests. Further proof of performance can be provided in accreditation documents of moisture vapor resistance, transport simulations, UN and DOT reports, available on request.
