Bachem announces mentoring program for women’s career development
Bubendorf, Switzerland: – Peptide and Oligonucleotide technology specialist Bachem AG has announced an independent female-led mentoring initiative designed to create a more inclusive working environment and improve female representation at more senior levels of the company.
The mentoring program, led by the Women in Bachem (WIB) group, was announced to mark the recent 2024 International Women’s Day (IWD).
Improving the balance
Women in Bachem (WIB) is an independent female community that already exists at Bachem to support fellow women in their professional and career development. WIB will now launch a six-month mentoring program aimed exclusively at women in Bachem to support them in overcoming individual professional challenges. The program is voluntary for both mentors and mentees and will run independently of other Bachem learning and training initiatives.
WIB wants to contribute to the company’s efforts toward a better balance between men and women in different disciplines and leadership positions and foster personal development supporting career progression. Bachem’s workforce is around one-third female with women proportionally under-represented in senior roles in something of a ‘glass ceiling’ paradigm that the company seeks to correct.
Pilot program
The WIB mentoring program will foster personal development over several months, recognizing that meaningful behavior change takes time and sustained dialogue between mentors and mentees. It aims to create a supportive environment that complements the line manager’s role and provides additional insight and perspective to support the mentee’s development.
The first pilot program will commence in the second quarter of 2024, designed to gather as much feedback as possible to refine the program further as well as attracting further participants.
