Waiblingen, Germany: – Advanced aseptic liquid filling and bottling specialist Rommelag Engineering will showcase applicability of its advanced bottelpack aseptic filling solutions from pharmaceutical to sensitive biotech liquid formulations at the upcoming CPhI Japan expo in Tokyo.

In partnership with its Japanese agent, Mutual Corp., the Rommelag stand at Booth 1B21 at the Big Sight Exhibition Center will feature its huge range of innovative container closure systems using blow-fill-seal (BFS) technology, including the new BFS-polymers like PET and Cycloolefins (COP & COC) that feature glass-like transparency.

New generation BFS applications

The Rommelag display will also feature new generation BFS-ampoules with elastomer closure, preservative-free multidose systems for ophthalmic drug products, the company’s kits for safe reconstitution and administration of lyophilized or powdered drugs and containers suited for medical devices like inhalers or autoinjectors.

In addition, Rommelag Engineering’s Director of R&D, Dr. Michael Spallek, will contribute to the Modern Biopharma Packaging session on Day Two of the conference sessions (1445 hrs, March 19, Seminar Room D, East Hall 1) outlining Rommelag’s recent experiences using modern BFS technology for primary packaging of sensitive liquid biotech formulations.

Overcoming technical challenges

These include a recombinant RSV nanoparticle system, an intranasal quadrivalent live attenuated influence vaccine and a recombinant DNA derived human DNase I (rhDNase) for the treatment of cystic fibrosis. Rommelag has managed to overcome key challenges of material selection, temperature effects, fill uniformity of a suspension and the development of a single use system for filling and cryogenic storage.

“Rommelag’s BFS and bottelpack technologies provide more cost-effective approaches to production of containers suited for medical devices like inhalers or autoinjectors that are key focus areas in modern pharmaceuticals,” says Dr. Spallek.

“Our displays and presentation in Tokyo should be of prime interest for professionals seeking innovative and effective container closure systems; safe and cost-effective aseptic filling and packaging of liquids and semi-liquids,” said Dr. Spallek.

About Rommelag

Rommelag Engineering sets standards in the aseptic packing of liquids and semisolids with its proprietary bottelpack® aseptic filling systems and Blow-Fill-Seal (BFS) technology.

Rommelag is the overall brand for the Group of companies that invented and developed BFS technology and has become a global market leader in the aseptic filling of liquids and semisolids with its bottelpack machines as well as film-based packaging and flexible containment solutions.

BFS technology powers a range of fully automatic bottelpack systems that can manufacture canisters, bottles, tubes, ampoules, drop bottles, bellows containers, and portion packaging in a variety of forms and plastic blends. Rommelag Engineering also supplies a range of expansion options and ancillaries including Cap-Welding Machine (SM), Ampoule Inspection System (VIM), Particle Inspection Machine (PIM) and High-Voltage Leak Detector (HVLD).

One sister company, Rommelag CMO, applies BFS and bottelpack technology on behalf of clients, contract filling more than two million containers a day for customers all over the world. Rommelag CMO operates more than 50 systems in multiple configurations, set up to meet stringent pharmaceutical standards, perform test fillings, and realize production batches or small-scale series for clients.

A second sister, Rommelag Flex, is a specialist in plastic film, developing tailored packaging solutions including a wide array of pouches, sleeves, sacks, carrier bags, and food, shrink, and special films made of polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and plastic blends, as well as special applications for sophisticated containment solutions in the pharma industry.

The final member of the Rommelag Group is Rommelag Service, which forms a one-stop shop for everything from spare parts to upgrades, along with expert advice from the earliest stages of process, when developing a formula or fine-tuning a product design.
