Phage Consultants Returning to RAFT® Fermentation Conference
Gdansk, Poland: – Specialist bacteriophage CRO Phage Consultants (PC) will again be a high-profile presence at the leading fermentation industry event, the biennial RAFT® (Recent Advances in Fermentation Technology) conference, being held this year in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
This will be the seventh time PC has attended the RAFT conference, in an association now dating back a full decade.
Bacteriophage expertise
Phage Consultants will be presenting from Table 28 in the Exhibition Zone at the Marriott Myrtle Beach conference venue. Table displays will highlight PC’s extensive portfolio of specialist bacteriophage-related services, expertise, and contamination control tools dedicated to keeping fermentation programs trouble-free.
As in previous years, Phage Consultants’ presence at RAFT will be led by its CEO and co-founder Dr. Marcin Łoś, who is an internationally acknowledged expert on control of bacteriophage-related infection of fermentation processes.
Fermentation services
Marcin Łoś commented: “We are thrilled to be returning to the RAFT Conference at this year’s beautiful beachside location.”
“This gathering of some of the world’s leading fermentation specialists always provides valuable new insights and productive conversations on both the malign and positive roles that bacteriophages can play,” he noted.
“This expert event provides us with a great platform to share knowledge and find new partners for our highly specialized services and capabilities, such as phage production and characterization, bacterial sample testing, contamination prevention and troubleshooting, disinfectant treatment testing, and process hygiene,” Dr. Łoś added.
About Phage Consultants
Phage Consultants is a contract research and manufacturing organization that specializes in bacteriophage detection, characterization and production. It also plays a leading role in preventing and eradicating contamination in laboratories and production facilities.
Bacteriophages (phages) are viruses that infect bacteria. First discovered around 1915, ‘phages played an important role in increasing scientists’ understanding of fundamental small molecule biology mechanisms, such as horizontal gene transfer.
Bacteriophages have different possible life cycles (lytic and lysogenic), along with various physical manifestations. They have been used for almost a century as alternatives to antibiotics and can have therapeutic effect against multi-drug-resistant strains of many bacteria.
However, in biotechnology, phage activity can be devastating in infecting bacterial cultures. This can cause long-lasting recurrent infections which prevent successful production and even force shutdown of whole facilities.
Founded in Gdansk, Poland, in 2007, PC has become a world leader in using the power of bacteriophage technology in bioprocess infection and contamination control and assisting companies whose production is based on microbial activities in preventing bacteriophage contamination, along with bacterial, fungal and viral contaminations.
The Phage Consultants team are specialists in the field of bacteriophage biology with specific expertise in phage activity in bioprocesses. The team provides unique assistance to pharmaceutical and biotech companies, offering a range of services from personal training to consulting and process optimization in phage growth limitation. The company also advises and assists clients in the development of new production facilities.

About RAFT® 2025
The biennial Recent Advances in Fermentation Technology (RAFT) conference provides a forum for industrial and academic scientists to discuss the latest developments in fermentation as applied in research and industry.
The conference is one of a series of specialist meetings sponsored by America’s Society for Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology (SIMB). The first RAFT conference was held in San Diego in 1995 and has since taken place every two years, with an additional event organized in 2023.
The 16th RAFT® Conference will be a four-day event opening November 9 at the Marriott Myrtle Beach Resort & Spa at Grande Dunes, South Carolina.
The conference will focus on the latest microbiology and biotechnology advancements in the fermentation industry, including strain engineering, scaling up and down, digitalization, modelling, innovative fermenter designs and fermentation modes, and the integration of upstream and downstream processes.
The conference will feature an exhibition, exhibitor showcases and a full program of presentations including an opening keynote address from Mark Warner, Co-Founder and CEO of Liberation Labs,
The event is organised by the SIMB with full information at: https://www.simbhq.org/raft/
