Phage Consultants brings contamination control technologies to RAFT® 2023 fermentation conference
Gdansk, Poland: – Specialist bacteriophage CRO Phage Consultants (PC) will once again be a prominent presence at the annual RAFT fermentation technology conference, this year in the beach resort of Naples, Florida, USA.
Phage Consultants will be an exhibitor at the event, with a stand at Booth 2 in the Exhibition Zone of the Naples Grande Beach Resort hotel. The stand will showcase PC’s extensive portfolio of bacteriophage expertise and contamination control tools and services dedicated to keeping fermentation programmes trouble-free.
Sixth time at RAFT
The Phage Consultants presence in Florida will be led by its CEO and founder, Dr. Marcin Los, who is a world-recognized expert in the study of bacteriophages.
“We are very pleased to be returning to the RAFT conference,” commented Dr. Los.
The power of phage technology
“This will be our sixth appearance at RAFT, which is a key event in our calendar for its expert audience of bioprocess decision makers and professionals, including fermentation managers and scientists,” he continued.
“Once again, this will be great opportunity to engage in friendly discussions with existing and potential partners and highlight the powerful role that bacteriophage technology can play in contamination control in fermentation, not only in keeping the process free of phages but also using the power of phages to analyze and combat bacterial contaminations,” Dr. Los added.
About Phage Consultants
Phage Consultants is a contract research and manufacturing organization that specializes in bacteriophage detection, characterization and production.
Bacteriophages (phages) are viruses that infect bacteria. First discovered around 1915, phages played an important role in understanding viral biology, for example in elucidating viral reproduction in lytic and lysogenic cycles. They have been used for almost a century as alternatives to antibiotics and can have therapeutic effect against multi-drug-resistant strains of many bacteria. In biotechnology, their activity can be devastating when bacterial cultures get infected. They can cause long-lasting recurrent infections which prevent successful production and in the past some facilities have been forced to close down due to their activities.
Founded in Gdansk, Poland, in 2007, PC has become a world leader in using the power of bacteriophage technology in bioprocess infection and contamination control and assisting companies whose production is based on microbial activities in preventing bacteriophage contamination, along with bacterial, fungal and viral contaminations.
Phage Consultants is also a team specialist in the field of bacteriophage biology with specific expertise in phage activity in bioprocesses. The team provides unique assistance to pharmaceutical and biotech companies, offering a range of services from personal training to consulting and process optimization in phage growth limitation. The company also advises and assists clients in the development of new production facilities.

About RAFT® 2023
The biennial Recent Advances in Fermentation Technology (RAFT) conference provides a forum for industrial and academic scientists to discuss the latest developments in fermentation as applied in research and industry.
The conference is one of a series of specialist meetings sponsored by America’s Society for Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology (SIMB). The first RAFT conference was held in San Diego in 1995 repeated held every second year until 2022, when it became an annual event
RAFT®15 will be a four-day event opening October 31 at the Naples Grande Beach Resort hotel. In Naples, FLA. The conference will focus on the latest microbiology and biotechnology advancements in the fermentation industry, with specific sessions that include NextGen strain design, used of process analytical technology (PAT) in fermentation. Sustainable fermentation processes, scale-up and scale-down challenges, and process modeling for fermentation control, as well as a round-table discussion on how the industry can reach Net Zero.
The conference will feature an exhibition, exhibitor showcases and a full program of presentations including a keynote address from leading consultant Dr. Christopher J. Guske, of US-based D2 Biotech Consulting.
The event is organised by the SIMB with full information at: https://www.simbhq.org/raft/
