Nestable drums: saving space reduces cost and carbon
Overview
CurTec International’s range of nestable drums provide the same levels of quality, security and usability as conventional drums while adding a further significant benefit – space saving.
Taking up around half the volume when nested, much less expensive storage and transport space is needed for empty drums, with significant potential cost savings during each logistics cycle.
These benefits can now be leveraged even further with the introduction of two new XL nestable 75 and 115 litre drum sizes.
Background
Some years ago, as part of a Six Sigma project for operational excellence, Merck/ MSD was looking for a reusable bulk tablet container that could help them meet their sustainability and efficiency goals. CurTec designed a nestable drum that could contribute positively to Merck’s sustainable supply chain and increase logistical efficiency, while also reducing their overall cost.
The Nestable Drums has become an international success, especially with companies who need to re-use drums. Reuse not only multiplies cost savings but also contributes to a more sustainable supply chain.
Features
CurTec’s successful line of nestable drums is expanded upwards with the introduction of two new largerXL 75 and 115 litre (20 and 30 US gallon) capacities. The 115 litre nestable drum is now the largest capacity sealable container in the entire CurTec packaging range.
The new drums will help contribute positively to a sustainable supply chain, increase logistical efficiency and reduce overall cost.
High-volume packaging like CurTec’s Nestable Drums help maximize the amount of cargo shipped, reducing vehicle traffic and related emissions of carbon dioxide and other pollutants.
Shipping and storing empty volume is disastrous for manufacturer costs and for energy and carbon use. Nestable Drums almost halve empty volume, reducing overall logistics costs by up to 30 per cent, with savings multiplied with each successive cycle.
