Mikron Automation expands capacity at Boudry

Boudry, Switzerland: – Swiss-based assembly process specialist Mikron Automation has begun construction work on the expansion of its headquarters in Boudry in Neuchâtel Canton, with new offices and manufacturing facilities.

With this expansion, Mikron SA Boudry is securing additional capacity and workplaces to enable the continuous growth of its automation business.

The start of the building expansion officially began on Monday, June 29, with a groundbreaking ceremony attended by partners, along with local and state authorities.

Meeting increased demand

This milestone is the result of Mikron’s great success in its markets within the past few years especially in the pharmaceutical and medtech industries.  Mikron SA Boudry is part of Mikron Automation division, the European leader in the engineering and manufacturing of agile and scalable assembly solutions for customers, active in the pharmaceutical and medtech industries as well as in the electrical, consumer goods and automotive industries.

Doubling capacity

Addition of 7,800 m² production space to the current factory will not only increase its assembly capabilities but also improve material and logistical flows. The new production area will provide additional assembly space, while allowing the company to completely reorganize the assembly floor workflow. By regrouping all engineering functions on the second floor, Mikron will provide an efficient and attractive working environment for its employees.

The new construction will more than double total factory area at Boudry to 15,000 m².

Enhanced environment

Mikron Boudry General Manager Félix Arrieta said the new factory setup would offer a better working environment and make it more attractive to current and future employees.

“We are building a green plant with a large smart office to suit our organizational evolution, optimize the working environment, build a customer campus, and increase customer satisfaction. The new factory will be fully operational in December 2021,” said Mr. Arrieta.

Mikron SA Boudry employs more than 400 people, around 50% of whom are engineers, 30% technicians and 10% apprentices.
