Dec Group focusing on continuous manufacturing at ACHEMA 2024
Ecublens, Switzerland: –Materials handling and process specialist Dec Group will place its focus on continuous manufacturing technologies when it exhibits at the upcoming ACHEMA 2024 World Forum and Leading Show for the Process Industries in Frankfurt-am-Main.
The Dec Group exhibitor stand at Booth C73 in Hall 6.0 will form part of the show’s Mechanical Processes close to the Pharmaceutical and Packaging Zones.
AstroDec launch
Dec will use the ACHEMA expo as the launch platform for its new Astro DecFilterdryer, which represents a significant step forward in continuous sterile API manufacturing, especially for industries needing access to larger scale continuous processing solutions.
The robust design features Dec’s proprietary technology to produce at large scale while offering both non-sterile and sterile executions, able to provide 50kg+ per unit per hour at a cost-effective price. Key design features include combined filtration, washing, and drying steps, steam sterilization, cGMP compliance, ability to interface with both batch and continuous up and downstream unit operations and suitability for hazardous locations, including ATEX safety.
End-to-end process coverage
The Dec display will also feature its PTS Batchmixer®, UMS DecMill® Containment Isolator and compact DecFill® MB Filling Platform with high precision dosing, automated robotic container handling and full isolation containment features.
The Dec team in Frankfurt will include Global Marketing and Communication Manager Gabriela Mikhaiel, who commented: “Our ACHEMA line-up represents solutions from all of our product lines covering every step of a process from the raw material bulk handling, API synthesis, various secondary processes, all the way through to final packaging.”
Accelerating development and scale-up
Dec Group will also contribute to the ACHEMA conference agenda with a presentation by Dr. Simon Coleman, Isolation and Drying Product Manager at its Alconbury Weston (AWL) subsidiary, which is a world leader in continuous manufacturing technologies.
Dr. Coleman will address the Flow chemistry Symposium IV session on Day Four, presenting case studies on ‘Continuous Rapid API Development Systems & Continuous Crystallization/Filtration: Lab to Production scale’. (Thursday, June 13, 1700 hrs.). His presentation will show how AWL’s continuous processing technology has been used to significantly reduce the time in API development from months to days by streamlining the multiple experiments as part of a DoE Design of Experiments approach to API development. He will explain how AWL’s combined platform incorporates automated reaction, crystallization, filtration, washing, drying, solids discharge and collection in bottles, as well as automatic data population of the results of each sub-batch. The system allows the process to already be validated at lab-scale for use in a continuous process at production scale.
A further case study demonstrates continuous process technology being used to achieve significant acceleration of scale-up. Dr. Coleman will describe a 1:1600 translation from lab-scale experiments to a cGMP production scale Continuous Crystallizer Filter Dryer System within 18 months.
