Delft, The Netherlands: – Applikon Biotechnology B.V. (Applikon) has partnered with the Biotechnology Research and Education Program at the University of Maryland, USA, to sponsor a one-day seminar on Recent Advances in Bioprocess Automation for Laboratory Development.

The seminar will cover latest developments in bioprocess automation for laboratory scale development. In particular, it will focus on the V-Control bioprocess automation system based on Emerson’s DeltaV Discovery platform, together with proprietary control systems and Lucullus Process Information Management System (PIMS) that integrates all process management functions and instrumentation in a single software solution.

The event will be held on March 29 at University of Maryland’s Biotechnology Research and Education Program campus at Rockville, MD, and will include live demonstrations of each technology.

Featured speakers

Speakers will include:

  • Ron Rossbach, Life Sciences Industry Consultant, Emerson: With extensive experience across laboratory and manufacturing automation, Ron Rossbach will focus on DeltaV Discovery and how the biopharmaceutical industry is accelerating technology transfer and scale-up from late-stage development into commercial supply.
  • Matthijs Niemeijer, Product Manager, Applikon Biotechnology: This presentation will explain V-Control, Applikon’s latest bioprocess control system for laboratory development, based on the Emerson DeltaV Discovery automation platform. Mr. Niemeijer will show how the system streamlines technology transfer and reduces scale-up time by providing a common control platform from discovery to product development and commercial production.
  • Ann D’Ambruoso, Product Manager, Applikon Biotechnology: Ms. D’Ambruoso will detail the new features built into the main Applikon controller software to enable sophisticated process control without additional supervisory level software.
  • Brian Trippe, Senior Account Manager, Applikon & Chris McChalicher, Principal Engineer, Bioprocess Development, Seres Therapeutics: A joint presentation of the Lucullus PIMS, a single software solution designed to manage all bioprocess functions and instrumentation from experimental design, planning, execution, data analysis and reporting. They will present an overview followed by an industry case study.
