Engineering Case Studies

SYSTAG Engineering has already achieved impressive results in a number of different industry sectors and fields. These are exemplified by the following three case studies.

CASE STUDY 1: Collaboration with ETH Zurich for development of improved laboratory measurement technology

The challenge was to simplify measurement and control technology as well as data evaluation and interpretation by means of new sensors.

The SYSTAG Engineering solution was to create close-to-production prototypes according to predefined specifications that allowed clear project results to be achieved and checked for feasibility.

As an established manufacturer and supplier of automated laboratory reactors and calorimetry measuring instruments, SYSTAG Engineering has become a developmental partner of ETH Zurich, contributing management and control over collaborative project, while providing the necessary technological infrastructure for development.

Through clear documentation of results, continuous improvement and innovation, SYSTAG has been able to create client transfer of knowledge between academic and business environments.

CASE STUDY 2: Open, modular process monitoring and process management system at pharmaceutical production plant

The challenge here was to enable automatic recording of parameters for material flow and procedures of several production lines in the plant. The system needed to be state-of-the-art and modular to allow future expansion and adaptation.

The SYSTAG solution was to provide a modular system consisting of iFix, SQL, Access and VB6 software to manage and monitor production machinery. This solution has enabled the plant to constantly take new requirements and specifications into account and to continuously improve the system, providing investment protection for the pharmaceutical production plant for 25 years.

SYSTAG Engineering contributed a technical solution for logging of production batches, including quality relevant set and actual values, with connection to a central data archiving

CASE STUDY 3: Development of a system for the parallel screening of high pressure reactions at a Swiss Specialty Chemical Company

Challenged to devise an instrumental solution for the safe, efficient and fully documented development of chemical processes under high pressure using different active gases, SYSTAG produces a solution that was user-friendly and cost-effective in terms of maintenance and, thanks to its compact design, suitable for use within standard extraction equipment. A high degree of automation provides advantages in terms of efficiency and reproducibility.

After reviewing detailed system needs in close collaboration with this Company, SYSTAG produced a technical specification to guide creation of controls and operating functions. In order to meet the requirements with regard to the degree of automation, SYSTAG also developed a new sampling system.

SYSTAG accompanied the project from the definition of the specifications, through development, including successful launch with user training.
