Regenerating UPW resin on site for green hydrogen production

Rossdorf, Germany: – Water treatment specialist EnviroChemie has made a significant advance in green hydrogen technology with the ability to continuously produce the UPW ultra-pure water required on site.

EnviroChemie is building a pioneering UPW ion exchange plant as part of a German company’s 200 MW green hydrogen power plant that incorporates a new form of resin regeneration technology.

Envopur® ion exchange processing

The plant will use the innovative Envopur® system to convert ordinary water into the UPW needed to fuel the green hydrogen electrolysis process.

The ion exchange system removes all minerals from the water using a combination of resin filtering, distillation and UV sulphite treatment.

Continuous resin regeneration process

A major issue for continuous UPW water production has been that the ion exchange resins become depleted over time, requiring the services of a resin regeneration station.

The new EnviroChemie installation overcomes the problem by enabling resin regeneration on-site as part of the purification process. This eliminates repeated need to transport the dozens of cubic meters of UPW resin involved in each regeneration.
