Phage Consultants to miss INTERPHEX Week Tokyo
Gdansk, Poland: – Bacteriophage technology specialist contract research organization Phage Consultants (PC) has cancelled its plans to attend next month’s INTERPHEX Week Tokyo meeting later in November.
Phage Consultants was reluctantly forced to withdraw its registration due to COVID-19 and related travelling restrictions, with Japan currently closed to European visitors.
Connecting with Asia
This would have been PC’s debut attendance at the INTERPHEX Japan show and its first direct contact with Asian markets. The company was looking forward to meeting potential new partners and customers, including fermentation teams and managers, QA professionals and biotech production facility managers, to whom it extends apologies and invitations to connect in other ways.
However, Phage Consultants will be an active participant in the upcoming online ISBioTech Waterside conference, opening November 16, where its founder and CEO Dr. Marcin Los will deliver an address Crouching T1, Hidden DE3 – how lysogeny, pseudolysogeny and hibernation may camouflage phages in the process, warning the bioprocess community of the dangers of ‘camouflaged’ phage contaminations in processes.
Combating the DE3 phage threat
Dr. Los will outline a range of techniques that can be used to recognize such camouflaged contaminations, prevent them and deal with them if they occur. Phage Consultants will also use the event’s networking platforms to present its broader contamination control services and its unique offer of Cell Bank Testing with DE3-related background reduction. This uses newly-developed technology and carefully designed protocols to overcome one of the major problems in cell bank testing: the presence of the DE3 prophage causing false positive results in phage and prophage testing.
Phage Consultants testing can remove the DE3-related background with high precision and ensure reliable analysis of any bacterial strain, with or without the DE3 prophage.
About Phage Consultants
Phage Consultants is a contract research and manufacturing organization that specializes in bacteriophage detection, characterization and production.
Bacteriophages (phages) are viruses that infect bacteria. First discovered around 1915, phages played an important role in understanding viral biology, for example in elucidating viral reproduction in lytic and lysogenic cycles. They have been used for almost a century as alternatives to antibiotics and can have therapeutic effect against multi-drug-resistant strains of many bacteria.
Founded in Gdansk, Poland, in 2007, PC has become a world leader in using the power of bacteriophage technology in bioprocess infection and contamination control and assisting companies whose production is based on microbial activities in preventing bacteriophage contamination, along with bacterial, fungal and viral contaminations.
Phage Consultants is also a team specialist in the field of bacteriophage biology with specific expertise in phage activity in bioprocesses. The team provides unique assistance to pharmaceutical and biotech companies, offering a range of services from personal training to consulting and process optimization in phage growth limitation. The company also advises and assists clients in the development of new production facilities.
About INTERPHEX Week Tokyo 2020
The Interphex (International Pharmaceutical Expo) series have become leading single source events for biopharmaceutical and pharmaceutical manufacturing and processing solutions and technologies. Each expo showcases equipment, accessories and technologies while offering networking and peer-to-peer sharing opportunities, presentations and interactive demonstrations. Interphex Japan is now the country’s largest B2B trade show for the pharmaceutical R&D and manufacturing sectors.
INTERPHEX Week Tokyo brings together four exhibitions for pharmaceutical technologies – INTERPHEX JAPAN (Manufacturing & Packaging), in-Pharma Japan (Ingredients), BioPharma Expo (Biopharmaceutical) and PharmaLab Japan: formerly BIOtech Japan (Drug Discovery). The 2020 event will have an estimated 1,400* exhibitors, making the event as one of the largest pharma industry events in Asia.
The expo and co-located conference covers the whole range of pharmaceutical production processes, allowing unrivalled opportunities to experience and compare the latest products and technologies available in Japan.
Because of the COVID-19 emergency, the event will be held partly online with the physical event subject to anti-coronavirus safeguards including entry testing, face coverings and physical distancing.
Makuhari Messe, Japan organizes the event with further information at: https://www.interphex.jp/en-gb.html
About ISBioTech 2020
The International Society for BioProcess Technology (ISBioTech) was established in 2010 to advance process and analytical techniques, making the latest bioprocess technology readily available to organizations developing and producing biopharmaceuticals worldwide.
Replacing the Society’s usual Fall Meeting due to the COVID-19 emergency, the ISBioTech Waterside™ conference is three-day virtual event opening November 16 and using online conferencing and networking platforms.
This innovation-focused meeting will once again feature three streams; this time looking at Cell Banking & Characterization, Contaminant Control and Raw Materials Science & Control.
ISBioTech Waterside is organized by International Society For Bioprocess Technology with more information available at: https://www.isbiotech.org/waterside2020
