Gdansk, Poland: – World-renowned bacteriophage specialists Phage Consultants (PC) will bring its internationally respected knowledge of phage-based decontamination technologies back to the RAFT™ fermentation technology conference in Florida, USA, next month.

The 12th Recent Advances in Fermentation Technology conference will be held at the Hyatt Coconut Point, Bonita Springs, FL at the end of October. This is the third time Phage Consultants has attended the event, having made its debut at RAFT 10 in 2012.

    Phage-based solutions

The PC tabletop display at Booth 8 in the exhibition zone will highlight the laboratory’s wide range of decontamination solutions that harness both its expertise in phage-related contamination of fermentation processes as well as the power of bacteriophage ‘mixes’ to combat other bacterial infections.

The RAFT conference is held in the autumn, which is a peak danger period for bacterial contamination of fermentation processes.

    Protecting fermentation processes

“The RAFT Conference is a wonderful event for anyone interested in optimizing fermentation processes,” commented Phage Consultants CEO and founder, Dr. Marcin Los, who will represent the company in Bonita Springs.

“For us, it’s a great opportunity to meet our peers and spread our knowledge about the effective role that bacteriophage technologies can play in protection and decontamination of bioprocesses and to promote our contamination control services,” Dr.Los added.

    About Phage Consultants

Phage Consultants is a contract research and manufacturing organization that specializes in bacteriophage detection and characterization and production.

Bacteriophages (phages) are viruses that infect bacteria. First discovered around 1915, phages play an important role in viral biology, used to elucidate DNA viral reproduction through lytic and lysogenic cycles. They have been used for almost a century as alternatives to antibiotics and can have therapeutic effect against multi-drug-resistant strains of many bacteria.

Founded in Gdansk, Poland, in 2007, PC have become world leaders in using the power of bacteriophage technology in bioprocess infection and contamination control and assisting companies whose production is based on microbial activities in preventing bacteriophage contamination, along with bacterial, fungal and viral contaminations.

Phage Consultants are also specialists in the field of bacteriophage biology with specific expertise on phage activity in bioprocessing. Its team provides unique assistance to pharmaceutical and biotech companies, offering a range of services from personal training to consulting and process optimization in phage growth limitation. The company also advises and assists clients in the development of new production facilities.

    About RAFT 2017

The Recent Advances in Fermentation Technology (RAFT™) conference provides a biennial forum for industrial and academic scientists to discuss the latest developments in fermentation as applied in research and industry.

The conference is one of a series of specialist meetings sponsored by America’s Society for Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology. The first RAFT conference was held in San Diego in 1995 and held every two years since.

This 12th RAFT conference (RAFT 12) is a four day event opening October 29 at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa at Bonita Springs, Florida. The conference will feature an exhibition, exhibitor showcases and a full program of presentations including a keynote address from Dr. Jason Crater of Genomatica on ‘The dawn of sustainable bio-based industrial chemicals’.

The event is organized by the Society for Industrial Microbiology with more information at: http://www.simbhq.org/raft/general-information/
