Phage Consultants makes debut at CPhI Worldwide

Gdansk, Poland: – Specialist bacteriophage CRO Phage Consultants (PC) will debut as an exhibitor at the huge upcoming CPhI Worldwide pharma fair in Frankfurt, showcasing its contracting and consulting services.

The Phage Consultants stand will be at Booth 62C44 at Messe Frankfurt, within CPhI’s Integrated Pharma Zone. The company will be exhibiting as part of the Pomorskie Voivodeship partnership of life sciences companies based around Gdansk, which has become a center of excellence.

Protecting fermentation processes

PC will be presenting a wide portfolio of specialist services, including deep expertise in keeping bacterial fermentations free from bacteriophage contamination that are highly relevant in biotech and biopharma.

The Gdansk-based laboratory is able to design customized solutions for safeguarding sensitive biotech processes, biological reactions and biofermentations.

Purification and detection services

The PC team, headed by CEO Dr. Marcin Los, will present an integrated portfolio of specialist services that both target bacteriophages and harness their power as powerful antibacterial and detection agents in their own right.

The stand will showcase Phage Production & Purification Services that can be used for development of phage-based drugs.

Bacteriophages as biosensors

The team will also have details of Phage Detection Services that deploy powerful tools for detecting bacteriophages, as well as advanced applications of ‘phages in drug and medicine discovery.

Most recently, these have included emerging techniques for using the viral characteristics of bacteriophages to recognize and bind specific bacterial receptors. This has enabled construction of biosensors to recognise specific targets, formed by creating immobilized covalent bonds.

Biosensors provide a particularly promising research avenue for solving the problem of detecting many pathogenic and food borne bacteria, such as typhus or E.coli, in low concentrations that can defeat standard detection methods but still pose risks for consumer health.

International partners

This is the first time in its 10-year history that PC has attended CPhI as an exhibitor. It will use the wider variety of networking platforms at CPhI Worldwide to connect with an international range of potential clients and partners.
