Phage Consultants heading to Queensland for Viruses of Microbes conference
Gdansk, Poland: – Specialist bacteriophage CRO Phage Consultants (PC) will once again be present at the latest Viruses of Microbes (VoM ) conference, this time in Queensland, Australia.
This will be PC’s fifth appearance at a VoM conference in a relationship that extends back almost to when the series was founded in Paris in July 2010.
Phage expertise
PC will take advantage of the conference to meet peers from around the world and share knowledge on latest developments in phage science.
The conference will also provide Phage Consultants with a platform to showcase its advanced bacteriophage expertise in using phage technology to prevent contamination in biological processes, providing the basis for a suite of contract research and manufacturing services.
Scientific insights
Once again, Phage Consultants will be represented at the event by its CEO, world-recognized bacteriophage authority Dr. Marcin Los.
“I am looking forward to another opportunity to re-connect with the international VoM community,” said Dr. Los.
“These conferences always feature excellent presentations and provide opportunities for relaxed and informal discussions that frequently produce compelling new insights,” he added.
About Phage Consultants
Phage Consultants is a contract research and manufacturing organization that specializes in bacteriophage detection, characterization and production, but also prevention and eradication from laboratories and production facilities.
Bacteriophages (phages) are viruses that infect bacteria. First discovered around 1915, phages played an important role in understanding viral biology, for example in elucidating viral reproduction in lytic and lysogenic cycles. They have been used for almost a century as alternatives to antibiotics and can have therapeutic effect against multi-drug-resistant strains of many bacteria. In biotechnology, their activity can be devastating when bacterial cultures get infected. They can cause long-lasting recurrent infections which prevent successful production and in the past some facilities have been forced to close down due to their activities.
Founded in Gdansk, Poland, in 2007, PC has become a world leader in using the power of bacteriophage technology in bioprocess infection and contamination control and assisting companies whose production is based on microbial activities in preventing bacteriophage contamination, along with bacterial, fungal and viral contaminations.
Phage Consultants is also a team specialist in the field of bacteriophage biology with specific expertise in phage activity in bioprocesses. The team provides unique assistance to pharmaceutical and biotech companies, offering a range of services from personal training to consulting and process optimization in phage growth limitation. The company also advises and assists clients in the development of new production facilities.

About VoM 2024
The Viruses of Microbes (VoM) series of conferences are dedicated to the advancement of the fields of viruses of microorganisms, including bacteriophages, archaeal viruses, and viruses of microbial eukaryotes. These conferences have now become annual events, with the previous one (VoM VII) held in Tibilisi, Georgia.
The VoM 2024 meeting, VoM VIII, is a five-day event opening July 15 at the Cairns Convention Center in tropical far north Queensland, Australia; the first time it has been held outside Europe.
The conference theme ‘Expanding Our Viral Frontiers’ references both the rapid expansion being witnessed in the field of microbe study as well as the geographic expansion of the VoM community.
The meeting will highlight the most recent advances in microbial virus research and applications, addressing an audience interested in both fundamental and applied research in areas such as ecology and evolution of microbial viruses, virus-host interactions, phage therapy, bioinformatics and AI applications, archaeal and eukaryotic viruses, the microbiome and systems virology.
The event is hosted by the International Society for the Viruses of Microorganisms (ISVM) and organized by Waldron Smith, with further information at: https://www.vom2024.org/
