Phage Consultants celebrates tenth anniversary at BIO World Congress
Gdansk, Poland: – Specialist Polish-based CRO Phage Consultants (PC) will return for a tenth year in succession to the landmark biotech industry event, the BIO World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology, this year held in Philadelphia.
Page Consultants will be an exhibitor at the congress, with a display at Booth 234 highlighting the company’s many contributions to bacteriophage technology and its applications in contamination control of bioprocesses.
World bacteriophage authority
Phage Consultants’ presence in Philadelphia will be led by its CEO, Dr. Marcin Los, who is an acknowledged leading academic authority on bacteriophage applications. Under his leadership, PC has developed highly innovative techniques for using bacteriophage ‘mixes’ to control bacterial contamination in industrial bioprocesses, avoiding use of antibiotics.
PC has also recently developed a ‘phage cocktail’ that can prevent Bacillus contamination.
Biological production knowledge
“It gives us great pleasure to be returning to this inspiring event,” said Dr. Los.
“We have attended every BIO World Congress since 2008, recognizing its unique strengths as a platform from which to network and share knowledge with fermentation managers and biological production teams, not least our latest insights on contamination prevention and troubleshooting,” Dr. Los commented.
Once again, Dr. Los will also use the congresses ONE-on-ONE™ Partnering facility to explain more about Phage Consultants’ bacteriophage contamination and microbial detection tools and its troubleshooting and prevention capabilities.
About Phage Consultants
Bacteriophages (phages) are viruses that infect bacteria. First discovered around 1915, phages play an important role in viral biology, used to elucidate DNA viral reproduction through lytic and lysogenic cycles. They have been used for almost a century as alternatives to antibiotics and can have therapeutic effect against multi-drug-resistant strains of many bacteria.
Based in Poland, Phage Consultants is a contract research and manufacturing organization that specializes in bacteriophage detection and characterization and production. PC have become world leaders in using the power of bacteriophage technology in bioprocess infection and contamination control and assisting companies whose production is based on microbial activities in preventing bacteriophage contamination, along with bacterial, fungal and viral contaminations.
Phage Consultants are also specialists in the field of bacteriophage biology with specific expertise on phage activity in bioprocessing. Its team provides unique assistance to pharmaceutical and biotech companies, offering a range of services from personal training to consulting and process optimization in phage growth limitation. The company also advises and assists clients in the development of new production facilities.
About BIO World Congress
The BIO World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology brings together some 1,000 global business leaders, investors and policy makers from more than 30 nations to share the latest advances in biotechnologies, including renewable chemicals, synthetic biology, enzymes, food ingredients and biofuels.
Previously staged in Montreal, the BIO World Congress 2018 is a four-day event, opening July 16 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. The accompanying exhibition will feature some 600 companies from around the world.
It also features an awards ceremony, with final presentation of the Rosalind Franklin Award for outstanding female contribution to biotech innovation and the George Washington Carver Award for significant individual contributions to industrial biotechnology.
The Congress is organized by the Maryland-based Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO), which represents more than 1,100 biotechnology companies, academic institutions, state biotechnology centers and related organizations from the USA and some 30 other nations.
