Gdansk, Poland: – Specialist Polish-based CRO Phage Consultants (PC) will return to the EFIB biotechnology forum in Glasgow to present new contamination control services, based on bacteriophages, but also the services to prevent and troubleshoot bacteriophages in bioprocess.

Phage Consultants CEO Dr. Marcin Los will present new insights on using bacteriophage mixes to control bacterial contamination in industrial bioprocesses, avoiding use of antibiotics.

PC will also use the meeting to showcase a recently developed ‘phage cocktail’ that can prevent Bacillus contamination.

    Antibiotic alternative

“This is our second attendance at the European Forum for Industrial Biotechnology”, said Marcin Los.

“We’re looking forward to taking part in the partnering meetings to meet fermentation managers and other end users to discuss the best ways to handle all contamination risks and events,” said Dr. Los.

“We will be able to show how our contamination control services can do more with less, using inexpensive bacteriophage mix ‘cocktails’ that can target microbial and bacterial contamination without using problematic and expensive antibiotics,” Dr. Los explained.

“Our contamination control services covers the area of not only bacterial, but also viral, including bacteriophages and fungal contaminations. They include process hygiene, facility cleaning and facility disinfection, but also work habits, procedures and process optimization” he added.

    About Phage Consultants

Bacteriophages (phages) are viruses that infect bacteria. First discovered around 1915, phages play an important role in viral biology, used to elucidate DNA viral reproduction through lytic and lysogenic cycles. They have been used for almost a century as alternatives to antibiotics and can have therapeutic effect against multi-drug-resistant strains of many bacteria.

Based in Poland, Phage Consultants is a contract research and manufacturing organization that specializes in bacteriophage detection and characterization and production. PC have become world leaders in using the power of bacteriophage technology in bioprocess infection and contamination control and assisting companies whose production is based on microbial activities in preventing bacteriophage contamination, along with bacterial, fungal and viral contaminations.

Phage Consultants are also specialists in the field of bacteriophage biology with specific expertise on phage activity in bioprocessing. Its team provides unique assistance to pharmaceutical and biotech companies, offering a range of services from personal training to consulting and process optimization in phage growth limitation. The company also advises and assists clients in the development of new production facilities.

    About EFIB 2016

Established in 2007, the European Forum for Industrial BioTechnology and the Bio economy (EFIB) has become a leading annual EU meeting place for business and policy leaders on Industrial Biotech and bio-based enterprises.

EFIB 2016 is a three-day event for more than 450 delegates, opening October 18 at the SEC, Glasgow. The meeting will discuss in particular proposals for EU-wide Public-Private Partnerships on Bio based Industries, developed under the EC’s new Horizon 2020 framework for Research and Innovation.

Six conference tracks will feature more than 100 speakers, covering key topics such as feedstocks, regional and national initiatives for the bioeconomy, investment, innovation and how to be successful in a low price oil market as well as a new feature: PitchFest.

The event is organized by EuropaBio and Smithers Rapra, in association with Scottish Development International. More information at: http://www.efibforum.com
