New manufacturing lines near completion
Karlstad, Sweden: – Specialist contract developer and manufacturer Aurena Laboratories is reaching the final stages of its twin-track project to upgrade its production facilities.
Aurena is constructing two new manufacturing lines at its Karlstad main site that will not only expand its capacity to provide contract manufacturing and fill/finish services but also expand the range of delivery systems on offer.
Twin new lines
Both new production lines are scheduled to commence operations in the fall of 2025.
The first line, designated FL5, will provide highly automated filling and finishing of water-based products, such as saline and seawater nasal sprays, in Bag-on-Valve packaging, at speeds from 50 to 100 units per minute. The line is connected to several 5000-liter tanks where final formulations are prepared.
Diversified delivery
The second new production line, FL4, is configured for filling liquid products into glass or plastic containers, meeting needs for specialized nasal, dermal, wound, oral, and eye treatment products.
The complete line that includes labelling, cartoning, and serialization, is designed for GMP-compliance. It will initially be dedicated to filling and finishing snap-on assembly products in sizes ranging up to 60 ml but can also be adapted for other configurations.
The FL4 line, together with supporting preparation area, is also ATEX-rated for safe handling of flammable products.
Seawater and saline products
The new lines will operate in conjunction with Aurena’s seawater collection system. Aurena sources seawater from near the seabed at the famous Havets Hus saltwater aquarium at Lysekil on the Swedish west coast. The water is then transported to the Aurena seawater purification plant that can hold up to 23,000 liters of salt water in one vessel as raw material for its range of seawater and saline products.
Beyond expanded capacity for BoV-powered saline and seawater sprays, the significance of the new lines is to expand Aurena’s manufacturing capabilities to other dosage delivery formats.
Once both lines are in operation, Aurena’s full range of fill/finish capabilities will include bag-on-valve sprays, airless and metered-dose pumps, nasal, dermal, and throat sprays, and the Aptar PureHale® fine mist dispensing system.
