MC Jetmill series: World-class micronization technology

    products-servicesDec Group
    June 13th 2016

Now in its fourth generation, Dec Group’s MC Jetmill technology has set revolutionary standards of quality and performance in micronizing particle size reduction since the 1960s.

Dec’s Single Pass Jet Milling Technology used in the new MC Jetmill range surpasses all existing jet milling systems on the market in terms of performance, product recovery, isolation, containment and process integration.

In One Pass, One Time, MC Jetmill can achieve ultra-narrow Particle Size Distribution (PSD), combined with high yields and low energy consumption.

    Design and Engineering

To achieve maximum bioavailability and potency, powdered pharmaceutical ingredients often need to be reduced to microscale particle size range. Using mechanical mills for particle size reduction frequently raises issues with cleaning, heat generation and lower size limits of around 40 microns.

Dec’s MC Jetmill® range of fluid energy mills overcome these issues, based on spiral jet milling, which reduces particle size reduction by collision.

More than half a century of continuous improvement has resulted in the patented 4th Generation of MC Jetmill® systems, incorporating Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis and “Smoothflow Jet Technology” to improve the geometry of the grinding chambers, combined with ring integrated nozzles. These innovations result in an exceptionally narrow PSD around 1 micron, along with lower energy inputs, to revolutionize existing micronizing procedures.

The design team developed and built new micronizing equipment with the use of alternative materials to deal with the most difficult products from sticky to hard, while minimizing blowback and product build up.

    High Containment Test Facility

The design process was greatly aided by Dec’s in-house testing capability that allows engineers to assess performance and containment with even the most toxic and/or toxic sterile compounds using the group’s state of the art high containment micronizing isolation system with fully automated control and dedicated air handling system capable of achieving specific temperatures and relative humidity requirements.

    Features and Benefits

To improve ergonomics and flexibility, all MC Jetmill® machines can be operated both vertically and horizontally with full clean and sterilize in place (CIP/SIP) options to support sterile manufacturing.

Optimized gas flow and ring nozzles also enhance environmental performance and sustainability with lower gas consumption than other systems.

MC Jetmill can be supplied contained for HPAPIs or non-contained for non-toxic products. MC Jetmill® micronizing isolators provide full containment of highly active and/or sterile compounds with full operator and product protection.

    Other benefits include:

    • Simple and rapid assembly/disassembly
    • Limited number of moving components for greater reliability
    • High yields
    • PSD scalability with all MC Jetmill® models

    Process Integration and Compliance

The MC Jetmill® system range from MC One to MC400 are engineered to comply with US/EU Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines, as well as EU Registration, Evaluation, Authorization & Restriction of CHemicals (REACH) regulations. They also comply with EU ATmosphères EXplosibles (ATEX) directives 2016/34/EU.

All of Dec’s jetmill technology is further available for aseptic manufacturing when sterile products are involved and can be easily integrated into an existing production line.

All Jetmill systems can integrate with Dec’s patented PTS (Powder Transfer System) technology to transfer, mix and discharge sensitive powders with no leakage, contamination or physical property changes during any process step.

    MC Jetmill Range

The MC Jetmill® range comprises seven systems, ranging in size and capacity from laboratory to full production scale.
