Erdmann Solutions teams with Janssen in AR Circulab presentation
Neuhausen, Switzerland:- Award-winning design and engineering agency Erdmann Solutions used Augmented Reality (AR) to present ground-breaking injector designs as part of a seminar on ‘green’ technologies.
Presenters from Erdmann Solutions and the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals teamed up to present their jointly developed Safe Returns sustainability program for medical injectors to the Circulab seminar in Schaffausen Switzerland.
International seminar
The event, held at the SIG Areal information space at Neuhausen Rhein Falls, brought together academics, industry professionals and students to discuss Sustainability and Circular Economy initiatives in a program jointly organised by the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) and Stanford University in California.
The event featured a tour of the nearby Schaffhausen pharma production facility of Janssen Pharmaceuticals, which has embraced Circular Economy methodology in its CarePath program including its Safe Returns® scheme that aims to reduce the ecological footprint of previously disposable injectors, using technology and methodology co-developed by Erdmann Solutions to incorporate CE concepts into basic product development, design and marketing of medical devices.
Sustainability principles
For Janssen, Erdmann has been involved in helping to create a set of guiding principles to steer design and manufacturing of packaging and devices for sustainability, establishing a roadmap including key targets and milestone dates, and identifying specific challenges, opportunities and actions to benchmark delivery.
Erdmann founder Raimund Erdmann teamed with Cédric Gysel, Senior Sustainable Innovation at Johnson & Johnson’s Device Center Of Excellence, to present the main elements of the project, using CAD models and fully immersive AR presentation delivered via HoloLens 2 glasses for six audience members at a time. The presentations were held in Hall 7 of the SIG Areal complex that is being reconfigured as a ‘digital factory’ to nurture disruptive technologies.
Building Moonshots
The Circulab seminar culminated in the formal launch of the book ‘Building Moonshots: 50+ Ways To Turn Radical Ideas Into Reality’ edited by Stanford professors Dr. Tamara Carleton and Dr. William Cockayne. Their work brings together a collection of strategies, techniques, and frameworks for scaling innovative ideas into concrete products submitted by a team of expert innovation strategists, aimed at entrepreneurs, founders, product development heads, and other business leaders.
Raimund Erdmann commented: “We were very pleased to be able to convey the circular economy idea in the SIG campus of Neuhausen through our projects. The event succeeded it its overall aim of promoting understanding of purpose driven economically circular design concepts.”
