Rotronic AF1 Flow measurement transmitter with Modbus RTU
Overview
Swiss-based environmental measurement specialist Rotronic has supplemented its AF1 series of inexpensive, high-precision and stable air velocity and temperature measurement transmitters with a new model that now adds Modbus RTU communication. This allows measuring range and outputs to be adjusted remotely with integration into a digital network.
The AF1 is primarily designed for HVAC applications where it can monitor and evaluate the functionality of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems in an extremely effective and efficient way. It is also used in other industral applications such as process control.
Available in wall mount or duct mount versions, the AF1 can be installed easily and cost-effectively with air velocity and temperature ranges and analogue outputs easily adjustable either via the integrated DIP switches or configured remotely via Modbus RTU communication. A calorimetric sensor is fitted providing outstanding long term stability.
Design
The AF1 is primarily designed for heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) applications, but also for use in other industrial applications in such as process control in which it is important to monitor the velocity and temperature or air or gas flows. Effective and efficient monitoring and control of HVAC systems is extremely important in modern comerce and industry since air quality and room temperature are highly important for personal comfort and ultimately performance. To ensure this, systems must operate without problems and be maintained at the correct values.
To this end, the AF1 is designed as an inexpensive, high-precision and stable measurement transmitter that can provide constant monitoring at one second intervals with very high degrees of accuracy and repeatibility. The integrated calorimetric sensor ensures outstanding long term stability.
The AF1 is also designed for inexpensive and easy installation, either as a wall mount housing with a cable mount probe sensor or as a dedicated duct version.
With the latest model, the air velocity and temperature measurement ranges and analogue outputs can be adjusted easily using integrated DIP switches. They can also be configured remotely via Modbus RTU functionality that is easily integrated into a series communication digital network using the RS-485 digital communications standard.
Features:
The AF1 features dual analog outputs for easier configuration and scaling. Integrated DIP switches and an ‘auto-zero’ button allow for simple set up in place, with user specified analog signal outputs, measurment ranges and Modbus connection.
The Modbus RTU that can be connected via RS-485 (TIA-485) balanced line twisted pair cable adds a further level of functionality allowing central monitoring and all device parameters to be set remotely including reading of flow velocity, velocity and temperature offsets, interpolation points and protection of read only registers.
