PolyCrystalLine s.r.l, the leaders in the research and characterization of solid state compounds for the pharmaceutical sector has joined forces with Molecular Crystal Engineering (Prof. Dario Braga – University of Bologna) to organize the 7th annual convention on Crystal Forms to be held in Bologna from 9th-11th June 2013.

Experts in Crystal Forms, PolyCrystalLine sees the three day meeting as an opportunity to establish an open forum, bringing together young researchers with scientists from academia and industry. The event’s friendly atmosphere encourages the presentation of results and the discussion of state-of-the-art issues regarding crystal forms.

Areas to be discussed during the event, include, the kinetic and thermodynamic stability of crystal forms, whether hydrates, solvates or co-crystals, salts and ionic co-crystals and their polymorphs and amorphous phases. In addition, their theoretical evaluation, marking and structural characterization and screening will be covered.

“Crystal forms and the complex issues surrounding them are at the forefront of solid state chemistry and have an enormous impact in the ever evolving world of the pharmaceutical sector” states Dr. Stefano Luca Giaffreda. The forum brings together experts in this field and allows us to create ideas for the future advancement of crystal forms.”

Several scientists from across Europe have already volunteered to attend the forum and contribute their experience and know-how. PolyCrystalLine are welcoming further contributors to the forum through Prof. Fabrizia Grepioni on [email protected].

The forum attracts a small registration fee (smaller for academia and students and waived to speakers from academia). Speakers and attendants will have to sustain their own travel and accommodation expenses.

About PolyCrystalLine
PolyCrystalLine was founded in 2005 as a business idea developed in an academic context. The company was born out of the Molecular Crystalline Engineering (MCE) group of research coordinated by Professor Dario Braga in the Department of Chemistry “G. Ciamician” of the University of Bologna. The MCE group has been working for many years in the field of crystal polymorphism and is one of the most specialized in Italy. In decades of collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry, the MCE group has developed its own techniques to induce and check the formation of polymorphic or solvate (generally hydrated) crystal forms. In 2007 PolyCrystalLine moved its activities out of the Department of Chemistry, transferring its university know-how into a dedicated site in the suburbs of Bologna. In September 2009 PCL moved premises into larger custom-built laboratories and offices in Medicina.
